‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’ Trailer Previews Phase 2, What’s Left of the Outside World (Video).

The first trailer for the Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials has dropped, and Dylan O’Brien is back to try and lead his friends and fellow captives to safety while searching for answers about the powerful organization known as WCKD—the group responsible for keeping them in the maze. The trailer for “The Scorch Trials,” the second film in the series based on James Dashner’s “The Maze Runner” trilogy of young-adult novels, hints at a bigger, scarier world than the one seen in the first movie.Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario, Ki Hong Lee and Patricia Clarkson are once again part of the cast, which includes new faces such as Nathalie Emmanuel, Aidan Gillen, Rosa Salazar, Barry Pepper and Giancarlo Esposito.

September 17 may seem like lifetimes away right now, but this suitably epic trailer is definitely enough to tide us over for a while – mainly because it’s even better than we imagined it would be. Although the boys and one girl have managed to escape the maze trials, their new journey takes them to the Scorch, a post-apocalyptic, desolate landscaped filled with unimaginable obstacles and even more questions. While the first Maze Runner film was action-packed from the start (a nice change considering most YA book adaptations concentrate on awkward romances and catchphrases), ‘Scorch Trials’ looks set to kick things up another, like, 12 notches. Although Dylan O’Brien’s Thomas and his friends are no longer trapped at the center of a maze behind mechanical walls, the outside world might be even more frightening.

Aiden Gillan (or Petyr Baelish to Game of Thrones fans) seems to be the leader at the Scorch, and just like his characters in the HBO series, he is as mysterious as ever. In this next chapter of the epic “Maze Runner” saga, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his fellow Gladers face their greatest challenge yet: searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organisation known as WCKD.

If you’ve seen the first film, (and if not, you may want to stop reading, cause spoilers) you’ll know that some of the Gladers make it out of the maze and are ‘rescued’ by WCKD, but obviously, all is not as it seems. Soon, the group realises that they’re being played, and venture out into ‘The Scorch’, which is like a Mad Max-lite type of landscape that happens to include loads of disease-ridden humans. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD’s vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all. – 20th Century Fox Dylan O’Brien likens it to ‘The Walking Dead’, so you just know there’s going to be some bits that make us throw our popcorn all over the place. The first look is far from lacking in action, with the gun-toting Gladers finding themselves running, fighting and doing whatever they can to escape WCKD and whatever forces might be trying to keep them contained in order to supposedly save humanity.
