Man Booker Prize unveils 2015 longlist.

Five American writers, including Anne Tyler and Marilynne Robinson, are among the 13 nominees longlisted for the prestigious Man Booker Prize announced Wednesday from the UK.

Andrew O’Hagan, Tom McCarthy and Sunjeev Sahota were the only three home-grown contenders for the £50,000 prize, which began accepting books by American authors for the first time last year. Michael Wood, chair of this year’s judges, said of the longlisted nominees: “The range of different performances and forms of these novels is amazing.

The increased competition meant that there was no room for prominent authors such as Kazuo Ishiguro, Salman Rushdie and Pat Barker, all of whose books are understood to have been submitted for consideration.
