Lindsay Lohan faces deadline for community service as possible jailtime looms, but will argue virus is behind lag.

The virus-stricken actress has less than a week to cough up the remainder of her community service hours or face possible criminal penalties — maybe even jail. “She has been doing her hours,” a source close to Lohan told the Daily News on Friday, adding that it was possible she might still make the deadline and provide the necessary proof through her lawyer at a hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday. But an unidentified source told that the “Mean Girls” star isn’t even near her quota and will ask for mercy and more time Wednesday as she cites unforeseen medical problems related to a recent infection with rare mosquito-borne virus Chikungunya.

She was slapped with probation and 240 hours of community service after pleading no contest to reckless driving in a June 2012 car crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica, Calif.. If she misses the community service deadline and asks for an extension, the judge on her case could grant the request or possibly revoke her probation pending a probation violation hearing.

Judge James Dabney said in November that he was pleased the actress had “picked up the pace” with her service hours spent at a London agency that aids neglected children and adults with disabilities. “CSV is the U.K.’s leading national volunteering charity, whose reputation and integrity are above reproach,” Lohan’s lawyer Shawn Holley previously told The News. In the meantime, it’s worth remembering that this “crime” does not “even rise to the standard of the second-rate burglary at the Watergate Hotel,” writes Daily News columnist Mike Lupica. Prosecutors say Silver carried out the scheme with two law firms — and got away with it by disguising bribes as “referral fees.” The News’ editorial board writes that Silver “must step down as Assembly speaker.” State Assembly Democrats, however, have already thrown their support behind the politician, claiming that his resignation would mean “chaos” for the chamber. “American Sniper” stirred up plenty of controversy as it broke box office records with a $105 million opening weekend. In-flight catalog SkyMall filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Thursday after it posted revenue of only $15.8 million in the first nine months of 2014 — less than half of what it made in 2013.

The three-night miniseries, which follows the founding founders in the early days of the American Revolution, is equal parts dramatic and insightful thanks to “a fast-moving combination of live action and CGI,” according to The News’ TV critic David Hinckley. In sports: History is likely to be made at the World’s Most Famous Arena on Sunday afternoon when legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski brings his Blue Devils to the Big Apple to battle St.
