‘Scream Queens’ Is ‘Halloween’ Meets ‘Heathers,’ Ryan Murphy Says at Comic-Con.

Beyond the opulent sleeve on her wrist, fans still have no idea what sort of character the 29-year-old is going to play in the fifth season of the horror anthology. At a panel for the new series, stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Skyler Samuels, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer and Billie Lourde were joined by co-creator Ryan Murphy, who teased the new series as “Halloween meets Heathers.” The mention of the former elicited big screams from the crowd for Halloween star Curtis, who was attending Comic-Con for the first time.

In the 10-second teaser released by FX Networks on Monday, Gaga’s silver, long-nailed hand is shown ringing the bell at the check-in desk, giving the first clues into her character. The singer revealed in February that she would be staring in the upcoming season, while also confirming the title that would follow Murder House, Asylum, Coven and Freak Show. To the joy of the crowd, Curtis said she will pay tribute to her breakthrough role on Scream Queens. “In episode two, there is a wordless homage that I threw in that was me tipping my hat to all you Laurie Strode lovers,” she said. Ryan Murphy was a surprise guest at the American Horror Story: Freak Show and Scream Queens joint panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, and the AHS mastermind revealed several new details about the upcoming top-secret season of his FX horror anthology series.

That video started with her naked back facing the camera, before she slowly turns around wearing a sequinned black mask covering her head and chest. ‘American Horror Story, season five,’ she says as she pulls it off, adding in a whisper: ‘Hotel’ According to the show’s creator Ryan Murphy, clues about the fifth season’s theme were scattered throughout the fourth season, and the previous four seasons are somehow connected. ‘When you work with someone like her, you sign up for something that is larger than life, and I think that’s what you want. Instead, he revealed that on the first episodes of the show, the actors were instructed to do one take where their character is the killer. “So every actor had to get into that mind-set,” he said. The designers have been coming out of the woodwork with looks for her.” Murphy also shared that Gaga reached out herself, expressing her interest to be part of “AHS” because she’s such a big fan. “The best call ever is ‘Please wait for Gaga,’” he joked. Everyone present on the panel — which included AHS favorites Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, and newbie Matt Bomer — will be “bad boys and girls,” according to Murphy.

Other than Gaga, the new season will see some familiar faces, Murphy shared at Con. “Things are connected,” he said. “This season, you’ll see more and more and more of that. The singer landed her role on AHS by request — she wrote and told Murphy that she was a huge fan, and that she wanted to play an evil character on the show. Characters from previous seasons will come check into the hotel.” “American Horror Story: Hotel,” hailing from 20th Century Fox, stars Gaga, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Chloe Sevigny, Evan Peters, Max Greenfield and Angela Bassett. Other details about Gaga’s small-screen debut: Her character will be highly involved in fashion, and unfortunately, despite all the music on Freak Show, she won’t be singing. Much like the AHS producers on last year’s Comic-Con panel, on Sunday Murphy announced the names of the characters the AHS veterans are set to play.

The Supreme herself, Jessica Lange, has confirmed multiple times that she’s not doing AHS anymore, but Murphy teased her possible return in a year or two.
