Kim Kardashian Requests a Twitter Edit Function, Twitter Co-founder Responds

Did Kim Kardashian Just Convince Twitter to Make a Dramatic Change?.

Kim Karadashian West is doing the people’s work: She said she recently emailed Twitter requesting the company add an “edit Tweet” function to its platform – something some users have advocated for for years – and Twitter responded. The stars are just like us, at least when it comes to sending out typos on Twitter and then having to debate whether or not to delete and re-tweet, or let your typo live on forever while followers from around the world reach out to helpfully point out that it’s actually spelled “the,” not “teh.” Unlike us mere mortals, though, Kardashian has some sway with the tech giant, thanks to her 33.8 million followers.Surely Jack Dorsey — co-founder and CEO of Twitter — doesn’t think Kim Kardashian was the first to desire a Twitter edit function, but you wouldn’t know it from this exchange on the site last night. Unlike Facebook, Instagram or Tumblr, Twitter doesn’t allow you to change anything after hitting send, a problem for those who might be a bit too quick to Tweet.

While many of us tweet into the void (usually begging for verified status), Kardashian actually got a response—and not from a low-level customer service representative at the site (the kind who usually ignore requests for verified status), but from Twitter founder and interim C.E.O.Jack Dorsey. He called her suggestions a “great idea” adding that the social media network is “always looking at ways to make things faster and easier.“ To Kardashian’s credit it is a great idea, but it’s not exactly a new one.

Back in 2013, which is pretty much a millennium in the tech world, Twitter employees told The Desk that they were working on an editing feature—and many other people have suggested it before 2013 and before Kardashian. Now that Dorsey has publicly weighed in, it may mean that tweet editing capability could be coming soon—at least for those with the little blue check marks.
