‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians: About Bruce': TV Review.

After Bruce Jenner’s groundbreaking interview with ABC News in April, many questioned why some members of the former Olympian’s family—his most recent wife, Kris Jenner, and the children they raised together as part of the blended family portrayed on Keeping Up With the Kardashians—were not involved in the news special.

Viewers are about to get an insight into the emotional reactions of Bruce Jenner’s loved ones as they initially digested the information that he was going through a transition process to become a woman. As Bruce Jenner continues to navigate through more changes than most people face in a lifetime, one thing remains exactly the same—how much he loves his family.

But in a special episode of the Kardashians series, in which Kim Kardashian was shown turning down the opportunity to appear on the news special, the family opened up on the subject on their own terms. During an appearance on the red carpet for the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, his 19-year-old daughter Kendall spoke proudly of her father’s decision to share his plans publicly. “You know, honestly I’ve never seen him happier,” the model told E!’s Giuliana Rancic. “I was with him yesterday and that alone makes me so happy.

The Olympic gold medalist couldn’t help but get emotional while talking several months ago with stepdaughters Kourtney, Kim and Khloé Kardashian and daughters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, all of them coming together to seek answers from their dad about his decision to finally start living as the woman he’s always felt himself to be. The confrontation shows Khloe confronting Bruce about not being fully honest with his children about his sex change intentions and it makes for heart rending viewing as he is taken to task over the most important decision of his life. The good news is that as he embarks on the final stages of his transition into presenting as a woman, Jenner’s haircut days are over.” And as The Hollywood Reporter pointed out, Bruce had begun the transition process already when this special was filmed — he has had a nose job and upper lip lift, and had upcoming procedures for his jaw and forehead.

While Bruce clearly thinks he has given sufficient information to each of his kids about his feelings, Khloe is adamant that he wasn’t clear enough and her tough guidance prompts him to disclose in full that in a few months time, he would be a woman. He also has two children from his first marriage, son Burt and daughter Cassandra, known as Casey, as well as two sons from his second wife Linda Thompson, Brandon and Brody. Bruce Jenner came in for more criticism on the broadcast: Khloe Kardashian and Kendall Jenner were shown crying after a conversation with Jenner in which he was perceived as unduly sensitive to how they were dealing with his transition. “I think it’s scary when people say Bruce is going to be gone,” Kendall said. These conversations between Bruce and his daughters and step-daughters, Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, took place on and around January 13 — before the Sawyer interview.

Kendall later reveals to the show that there were signs of Bruce’s conflict, as they would find female accessories that they initially thought must have belonged to another woman. Khloe asks the burning question, whether Bruce plans on not being Bruce sometime soon. “That’s quite possible, yeah,” he tells her. “Probably in the spring (is when Bruce will be gone).” That would be — now. “He’s going to tell his full story,” Kim tells her sisters. He taught me how to ride a bike and be the tomboy that I am.” Meanwhile Kim, 34, is also seen fighting back tears over the family’s latest development as she discusses her concern over how Kris is handling the news. “I was thinking, ‘Mom this is really hard for her.’ It’s so sad. That is not my intention.” “If I’m not honest because I’m afraid to talk to you about this subject, because I know it hurts, I understand that,” Bruce continues. “Am I doing it right, Khloe? The emotional episode marks the first time that we get such a fraught insight into how Bruce’s loved ones dealt with the life changes that were happening in the family.

E! stumbled upon a moment to explain to America how strange it is to see a person in a new light, and did so not by making a clown out of Jenner but by showing the impact of his decision upon others. The 33-year-old singer rolled in her mini-me on a large red stroller and brought along her stylish floral changing bag, which every mom knows is a necessity for a good night out.

The American Idol winner later took to the stage for a stunning performance of the touching ballad “Invincible” from her seventh studio album Piece By Piece. Clarkson’s breathtaking rendition of her inspiring single with the lyrics “What was I running for/ I was hiding from the world/ I was so afraid/ I felt so unsure/ Now I am invincible,” garnered attention from all eyes in the room. Nick Jonas even admitted his excitement to see the diva sing live and dished about it to Entertainment Weekly. “Kelly Clarkson is one that I always enjoy watching,” he explained. “She has such a great voice.” This year’s event was hosted by none other than Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen—who were quite the dynamic duo, to say the least—and held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

One Direction, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Kanye West and many, many more brought the house to their feet with their unique performances throughout the night. The star-studded cast—which included Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Hargitay, Cara Delevingne, Lena Dunham, and basically every other famous friend of the pop star—was action-packed and definitely didn’t disappoint. T.Swift had been slowly releasing the cast members for the Joseph Kahn-directed video on Twitter and finally gave fans what they’d been waiting for tonight! Kris was seen only briefly in the first hour of the two-night event (part two airs tomorrow night) but she tells Kim that she has “memories of this life and I feel sometimes like it didn’t exist.” And Khloe wonders if Kylie and Kendall should have a chance to say goodbye to their dad.

Presumably, this means whether he’s undergoing a complete sex change. “A few more little tweaks and then I’m kind of done with that,” he told Kim, referring we think to his facial surgery, never specifically answering that other question. Fall Out Boy and Wiz Khalifa followed by Meghan Trainor and John Legend gave two separate performances that perfectly highlighted their respective styles. Best Rap Song at the BBMAs went to, drumroll, Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX for “Fancy” shortly before Khalifa sang his Paul Walker tribute track, “See You Again.” Celine Dion gave the award for Top Male Artist to the night’s major winner: Sam Smith—who proudly accepted silently via video as he was resting from vocal surgery. Several familiar faces from the hit show Empire then got up and showed off their musical chops during an awesome performance presented by Cookie Taraji P. While the hour wasn’t as tacky as it could have been, something about the special cheapened the plaintive honesty Jenner displayed in his revealing interview with Sawyer.

Fellow Brit Ed Sheeran then gave a beautiful acoustic performance of “Bloodstream” just moments before “All About That Bass” won Billboard’s Top Hot 100 Song. And as if she couldn’t win another award, Swift took home the top prize for Billboard Chart Achievement. #CongratsTaylor quickly began trending around the world on Twitter—and understandably so! Kelly Clarkson and Imagine Dragons shared their own moments in the spotlight when they each gave low-key, but soulful performances towards the end of the evening.
