Jane Birkin Wants Her Name Removed From Hermes Crocodile Handbag.

Since its release in 1984, Hermes’ “Birkin bag” — named after British-born “It”-girl icon Jane Birkin — has become synonymous with luxury, exclusivity and, of course, fabulous style. But after PETA released a report detailing the “cruel” methods supposedly involved in the production of the bags, Yahoo reported that Birkin has asked the French fashion house to drop her name from the product. “Having been alerted to the cruel practices reserved for crocodiles during their slaughter to make Hermes handbags carrying my name … I have asked Hermes to debaptise the Birkin Croco until better practices in line with international norms can be put in place,” said the 68-year-old in a statement. In its report published at the end of last year, PETA alleged that the Padenga Holdings crocodile farms that Hermes sources its materials from in Kariba, Zimbabwe, keep the animals in inhumane conditions.
