Kendrick Lamar ‘These Walls’ Video: K.Dot Throws Massive Motel Party With Terry Crews.

If you weren’t excited enough at Kendrick Lamar’s incoming headline tour and appearance at Bluesfest, then this new eight-minute epic should kick things into next gear.

The video, dubbed a “Black Comedy,” features Terry Crews and a dancing Lamar as they rage a house party that leaves them with more than they bargained for. The Compton emcee has just dropped the video for ‘These Walls’ – a fan favourite from To Pimp A Butterfly long before it ever reached single status. The track already has a pretty vivid sexual undertone and Kendrick is seen getting a major “wallie” (that’s slang for when a woman hard-core ass-dances a guy against a wall) as the scene opens. The track – which also features Bilal, Anna Wise and Thundercat – ends with a ‘To Be Continued…’ caption, suggesting that the next single will pick up on the wacky narrative.

Early on, the heavily stylized, symbolic, and distinctive red and blue lights from the film are recreated, amidst an incredible and similarly referential unbroken tracking shot of an overcrowded and hyper-sexual party. The man recounts his tale to three other prisoners who express their skepticism that this man could have spent the night three women and two bottles deep with Kendrick. The video starts out with Kendrick Lamar in some run down motel filled with some guys gambling, drinking and hitting on a multitude of strippers that outnumber the guys at least 4 to 1. While “These Walls” is the track, the video, titled “Behind the Walls,” contains a prelude to the song’s story, which is left unfinished here. At the end, it teases this story will be continued, so stay tuned for whatever video Lamar comes out with next, either during or after his current Kunta’s Groove Sessions tour. Eventually he links up with Terry Crews to go and “get their money,” but end up crashing a talent show and the pair do a hilarious “Hit The Quan” dance. For one of T.P.A.B.‘s most literary moments, ’90s pop culture and humor can be the perfect visual vehicle for an MC that doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Notably, for a song about sex and sex organs, the video features no nudity—save for a few old prison pin-ups (a clever Shawshank Redemption) allusion.
