About Bruce: Transition timetable talk leaves Kendall and Khloe upset.

Sunday night’s Keeping Up With the Kardashians: About Bruce showed Bruce Jenner telling his daughters about his transition from male to female sooner than they thought.

The brunette stunner stepped out on the red carpet tonight at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards—looking drop-dead gorgeous in a Balmain creation, we might add—and spoke with E! And the new E! special about Bruce Jenner, which shows his family’s deeply emotional reaction as he comes out as transgender, is no exception. (Note: E! says Bruce “is choosing not to live publicly in the media as a woman” and should be referred to with male pronouns.) The first part of the episode (part two airs Monday night) featured Bruce further explaining his transition to ex-wife, Kris Jenner; their daughters, Kendall and Kylie; and his stepdaughters, Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian. Kendall and Khloé were upset—mostly because he didn’t communicate the issue well enough with them, and they weren’t ready for Bruce to be “gone.” However, through their confessionals and the face-to-face conversation, Bruce and Khloé agreed that it was a huge emotional thing to be dealing with as a family. News will continue to refer to him as Bruce and use male pronouns, until he indicates otherwise.) “Kim has handled this transition with such grace and I’m incredibly proud to call her my sister…I hope you guys enjoyed tonight’s part 1 special of About Bruce. So, to see him happy and to see him going through this and staying so strong and really thinking about his kids is amazing.” Bruce has Kendall and sister Kylie, 17 with his third wife Kris Jenner, who he split from in October 2013.

The special made it clear that Bruce came out to each member of his family privately and off-camera — these were the follow-up conversations, particularly about Bruce’s plan to physically transition this year. He also has two children from his first marriage, son Burt and daughter Cassandra, known as Casey, as well as two sons from his second wife Linda Thompson, Brandon and Brody. He briefly addressed this question in his Diane Sawyer interview, but went into detail here. “Families of trans people often feel like they need to grieve the loss of the person that they thought they knew,” a message from Bruce reads on screen at the beginning. “My family’s feelings are included here in the hope that other families will know they are not alone; and to show that families move on from this grief. Today my family loves, supports and accepts me as I am — and I am so grateful.” The hour-long special stayed on that theme, as Kris and Bruce’s kids said how supportive they were of his decision, but still struggled to adjust to the news.

There were lots of home movies spliced between the footage, showing Bruce and the kids when they were younger, and illustrating how close the family has always been. The 33-year-old singer rolled in her mini-me on a large red stroller and brought along her stylish floral changing bag, which every mom knows is a necessity for a good night out. The American Idol winner later took to the stage for a stunning performance of the touching ballad “Invincible” from her seventh studio album Piece By Piece. He taught me how to ride a bike and be the tomboy that I am.” Meanwhile Kim, 34, is also seen fighting back tears over the family’s latest development as she discusses her concern over how Kris is handling the news. “I was thinking, ‘Mom this is really hard for her.’ It’s so sad.

Kendall, 19, cried as she talked about finding lipstick and women’s clothes in her dad’s room when she was younger and assumed he was having an affair. Clarkson’s breathtaking rendition of her inspiring single with the lyrics “What was I running for/ I was hiding from the world/ I was so afraid/ I felt so unsure/ Now I am invincible,” garnered attention from all eyes in the room. She cries all the time and it makes me really sad,” she said. “We should really appreciate all the things she does for us, because she does a lot.” Then, one night she went to the kitchen to get a glass of water around 4 a.m., and spotted Bruce dressed as a woman. “I just feel bad, like, if that’s really what makes you happy then you had to sneak around at like 4 a.m. because you didn’t want to scare me and Kylie,” Kendall said through tears. Nick Jonas even admitted his excitement to see the diva sing live and dished about it to Entertainment Weekly. “Kelly Clarkson is one that I always enjoy watching,” he explained. “She has such a great voice.” This year’s event was hosted by none other than Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen—who were quite the dynamic duo, to say the least—and held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

In a later conversation, Kim agreed that everyone wanted to understand his struggle, but he needed to communicate. “We know you know well enough to know that you don’t want to hurt us … I just think what just hurts us is when we hear things are changing and happening and we don’t know about it,” Kim explained. “We just want to be in the loop.” “Okay, so when you’re talking to mom and the girls you have to say that, and you can’t hesitate,” Kim offered. “Hesitating four seconds makes us feel like you’re lying when you already know the answer. One Direction, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Kanye West and many, many more brought the house to their feet with their unique performances throughout the night. You’ve probably already made the appointment.” At the end, Bruce sat down with all five kids and apologized for the disconnect that they all felt. “When you carry around a secret your whole life, what you have a tendency to do is you isolate yourself from the world,” he said. “I’ve done a lot of that. The star-studded cast—which included Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Hargitay, Cara Delevingne, Lena Dunham, and basically every other famous friend of the pop star—was action-packed and definitely didn’t disappoint.

That’s not a good thing.” He told them more about the procedures he needs done — he’s already had a nose job — but will have work done on his lips and forehead. T.Swift had been slowly releasing the cast members for the Joseph Kahn-directed video on Twitter and finally gave fans what they’d been waiting for tonight! Khloe, meanwhile, was upset once she realized that for someone to proceed with the physical transition, it requires months of consulting with hormone specialists, which means Bruce had this in the works for a long time. “He’s been planning this for probably a year and hasn’t deemed it necessarily to tell any of us,” she typed into her phone during the family sit-down, showing the words to Kendall as everyone else talked.

Fall Out Boy and Wiz Khalifa followed by Meghan Trainor and John Legend gave two separate performances that perfectly highlighted their respective styles. Bruce emphasized he hoped that this can help other families going through the same thing. “Dealing with something like this, and I get it, is like dealing with a death in the family,” Bruce said to the camera. “You don’t look like them anymore, you somewhat act like them but not really. Best Rap Song at the BBMAs went to, drumroll, Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX for “Fancy” shortly before Khalifa sang his Paul Walker tribute track, “See You Again.” Celine Dion gave the award for Top Male Artist to the night’s major winner: Sam Smith—who proudly accepted silently via video as he was resting from vocal surgery. Several familiar faces from the hit show Empire then got up and showed off their musical chops during an awesome performance presented by Cookie Taraji P. Fellow Brit Ed Sheeran then gave a beautiful acoustic performance of “Bloodstream” just moments before “All About That Bass” won Billboard’s Top Hot 100 Song.

And as if she couldn’t win another award, Swift took home the top prize for Billboard Chart Achievement. #CongratsTaylor quickly began trending around the world on Twitter—and understandably so! Kelly Clarkson and Imagine Dragons shared their own moments in the spotlight when they each gave low-key, but soulful performances towards the end of the evening.
