Katy Perry Donates $5,000 for TLC’s New Album as Girl Group Teases Tour Surprises With New Kids on the Block.

Just one day after the musical groups announced the Main Event tour, the “Roar” singer pledged $5,000 to Kickstarter in hopes that TLC will create a new album in the year ahead. “‘Scrubs’ is my favorite,” Jonathan Knight gushed after being persuaded by Alicia Quarles to tell the truth. NKOTB announced “The Main Event” tour Tuesday on Good Morning America with the help of TLC’s Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins.

After New Kids on the Block announced their upcoming summer tour with TLC and Nelly, they paid a visit to EW Radio (SiriusXM 105), where they talked about the potential for some onstage collaboration between the artists. Bandmember Donnie Wahlberg called the tour the “event of the year.” “This is such a great bill and we have so many hit records and such huge followings that we just want to make it the party of the year,” Wahlberg said. Well, considering that the question caused them to break out into a version of TLC’s “What About Your Friends,” followed closely by their rendition of Nelly’s “Hot in Here,” we’d say yes. Since its first wave of pre-teen idol fame crested, the New Kids have stayed busy; along with fellow boy bands 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men, the group toured most recently during the summer of 2013. Donnie Wahlberg has acted in television and film over the years, and currently appears in the CBS cop drama “Blue Bloods” and the A&E reality show “Wahlburgers.” In 2014, Jordan Knight teamed up with former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter as the duo Nick & Knight, releasing a self-titled album at the end of September.

While you are undoubtedly downloading “The Right Stuff” into your iPod as we speak, take a look at these other trends, stars and shows that make us miss the 1990s. The bands have worked hard on the show and staging concept to make sure that everyone in the house has a part of the action, up close and center. “We always have something special up our sleeves,” said NKOTB member Donnie Wahlberg. “Our fans keep asking us to come back out on the road, and we want to keep giving them what they want! Remaining members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas currently perform as a duo; on Tuesday (Jan. 20) the pair launched a Kickstarter page to raise funds for what they say will be the final TLC album. (Katy Perry, several outlets reported Tuesday, pledged $5000, which gets her a slumber party with the singer of her choice, plus other premiums.) The groups shut down Chase Plaza at Madison Square Garden for a press conference filled with media and ecstatic fans, talking with outlets like Access Hollywood, E!, Entertainment Tonight, EXTRA, Associated Press and BuzzFeed.

Tickets for the SAP Center concert are $99.50, $79.50, $52.50 and $29.50 for reserved seats plus applicable charges and are available at www.ticketmaster.com
