Justin Timberlake + Anna Kendrick Just Might Make the ‘Trolls’ Movie Good.

Timberlake, who starred in “Friends with Benefits,” and “The Social Network” has also voiced animated hits such as “Yogi Bear” and “Shrek the Third.” The musical comedy is based on the troll dolls created in the late 1950s by a Danish woodcutter, Thomas Dam, who couldn’t afford a Christmas present for his daughter.

According to Deadline, Justin will play the part of lead character, Branch, who is described as “a hilariously hardcore survivalist who hides his surprising true colors.” Justin will star opposite Anna Kendrick, who already signed on to play the role of Princess Poppy. Troll dolls were the must-have for a lot of children back in the day, whether you had a full-size doll or a small stick-on-the-end-of-your-pencil kind. DreamWorks says the plot of the movie will “for the first time tell the story behind the beloved Trolls and their gravity defying and colorful manes.” For reference, here is a photo of the horrible trolls. Directed by Mike Mitchell and co-directed by Walt Dohrn, the duo behind Shrek Forever After, the film is produced by Gina Shay, also a Shrek Forever After alum. The dad-of-one and former *NSYNC superstud has been announced alongside tiny beauty Anna Kendrick as the places in the upcoming musical continue to get snapped up.

Kendrick, famous for her turn on Pitch Perfect and its successor Pitch Perfect 2, will play Princess Poppy who will journey alongside Branch outside of the comfortable world they have grown accustomed to. They are recognizable around the world for heir uniquely endearing faces and shocks of colorful hair continue to capture the hearts and imaginations of fans around the world. After dying down a few years later, troll figurines eventually reemerged with renewed popularity in the ’90s — though some of us will never understand the appeal. Timberlake, a nine-time Grammy and four-time Emmy Award winner, also is a busy film actor, with such credits as The Social Network, Runner Runner and Inside Llewyn Davis.
