Justin Theroux Almost Died During His Bora Bora Honeymoon With Jennifer Aniston.

Jennifer Aniston’s new husband Justin Theroux’s post-wedding bliss almost came to an abrupt end on his honeymoon after he ran out of oxygen during a scary scuba diving trip. This past August, after marrying in a super-secret ceremony in Malibu, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux took off for the most lavish honeymoon we had ever heard of—a six-figure affair at the Four Seasons Bora Bora with their closest friends including Chelsea Handler, Jason Bateman, and Courteney Cox. The actor revealed how he went down ten feet after looking at the “pretty fish” and the coral, and the following day was joined by some friends who had joined them. I swim over to [the guide] and I start tapping the thing and showing it to him and he says, ‘Keep swimming, keep swimming…’ I’m like, ‘Alright…’ I’m trying to enjoy the manta rays and all this, but I’m distracted because I want some oxygen!” “I just wanna go up…,” he remembers. “I go to my friend and I’m like [indicating with eyes], ‘Look’, and he’s like, ‘Oh my God, you’re about to die…!’ It’s just sheer panic in my eyeballs!” “I can’t just swim up to the top because I don’t wanna get the bends (decompression sickness), so he pulls the respirator (sic) out, puts it in my mouth, hits this ‘clear’ button which sends all these bubbles out, sends water down my throat, so now I’m coughing and hacking under water, which is not a great feeling…,” Theroux added. “Your brain goes to this crazy place, like, ‘Oh my God, this is like some plot to kill me on my honeymoon…!’ “Finally, he rolls his eyes and we go up slowly. The scuba instructor didn’t speak much English and the language barrier proved a problem for the group, who had only just gone through some training earlier in the week.

When the instructor clocked on to what had happened, he quickly gave Justin the emergency respirator that he had been carrying and water gushed into the actor’s mouth. But Justin later learned that the instructor couldn’t bring the group back to the surface quick enough as they had swam a big distance from the boat and it would have been too dangerous to swim back again. In fact, while promoting his series The Leftovers on Friday, Theroux revealed that he came close to death on that honeymoon—a tragedy that would have surely inspired “Sad Jen” tabloid covers for centuries to come.

After enjoying one pleasant scuba outing, where he admired the local fish and coral, the actor decided to take a second spin at the activity—and enlisted some friends to go out with him on a boat. And the guests did not tip off any media beforehand—meaning that Aniston and Theroux succeeded in the rare celebrity feat in the social-media age: the secret wedding.
