‘Jurassic World’ sequel set for June 2018 release.

Universal announced that a “Jurassic World” sequel, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard expected to reprise their roles from this year’s blockbuster, will hit theaters on June 22, 2018.“Jurassic World” has devoured all sorts of records on its way to racking up the third-highest international box office gross of all time, behind only James Cameron’s “Avatar” and “Titanic,” so a sequel was a safe bet.Just when everyone thought the franchise was extinct, “Jurassic World” reached new heights during opening weekend and raked in over $208 million in the United States.

It’s not exactly a surprise since the movie has already rampage its way through the record books, already having earned a T-Rex sized $1.5 billion worldwide at the box office. A new official trailer for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” hit the Internet Thursday, and judging by the two minutes and 30-seconds of footage, the dystopian franchise is going out with a bang. The final installment in the cinematic saga that’s based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy sees Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) leading a final revolution into the Capital against the forces of despotic President Snow (Donald Sutherland).

The sequel will be penned by “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow and his writing partner, Derek Connolly; the pair rewrote “World” from an earlier draft by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The buzz around movie sites — and originally reported by blogger Umberto Gonzalez — is that the filmmaker could be in line to helm “Star Wars Episode IX.” Disney has neither confirmed nor denied the report. “Jurassic World” has grossed more than $1.5 billion world-wide and recently passed Marvel’s “The Avengers” as the third-biggest global box office grosser. And he’s not going quietly: the trailer shows battle sequences involving street fighting, mutant creatures in sewers and torrents of deadly black goo.

Frank Marshall will return to produce the follow-up, and original “Jurassic Park” helmer Steven Spielberg will once again serve as executive producer, this time joined by Trevorrow. More importantly for many fans, the movie, which hits theaters Nov. 20, will also finally resolve the love triangle between Katniss and the two men in her life — Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Gale (Liam Hemsworth).
