Josh Duggar Responds to Past Child Molestation Allegations: Read the 19 Kids and Counting Star’s Statement.

In the wake of a tabloid report alleging that he molested several underage girls while he was a teenager, reality-television star Josh Duggar said Thursday that he ‘‘acted inexcusably’’ and was ‘‘deeply sorry’’ for what he called ‘‘my wrongdoing.’’ The 27-year-old Duggar, a member of the family that stars on TLC’s ‘‘19 Kids and Counting,’’ also resigned his post with the Family Research Council. ‘‘Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. Josh Duggar, 27, is the eldest child of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, whose long-running show on cable network TLC chronicles the daily struggles and triumphs of a conservative family in Arkansas. I hurt others, including my family and close friends,” Josh, now 27, wrote on the Duggars’ Facebook page. “I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.” TLC, the network that has aired the reality show about his family since 2008, has not commented on the subject, but aired a 19 Kids and Counting marathon Thursday night, upsetting many Twitter users.

June “Mama June” Shannon’s show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” was shut down in Oct. 2014 after photos surfaced that showed Shannon spending time with a convicted child molester, who was sent to jail for molesting her daughter. Anna, Josh’s wife of over six year, also weighed in on Facebook, saying she knew about Josh’s past with the underage girls “teenage mistakes” two years before the pair got engaged. “I want to say thank you to those who took time over a decade ago to help Josh in a time of crisis,” Anna writes. “Your investment changed his life from going down the wrong path to doing what is right. The man Shannon was snapped with never appeared on her reality show, she noted. “I read that the Duggar family said this happening with their son brought them closer to God and each other. The apology came after In Touch published a document it said it obtained from Arkansas’ Springdale Police Department alleging multiple instances in which Duggar molested underage girls.

If it weren’t for your help I would not be here as his wife — celebrating 6 1/2 years of marriage to a man who knows how to be a gentleman and treat a girl right. In my life today, I am so very thankful for God’s grace, mercy and redemption.” TMZ reported earlier today that Duggar — 14 at the time — was investigated for sexually molesting five girls, some allegedly his sisters, starting in 2002. According to the police report, he allegedly fondled the breasts and genitals of the females, and a 2006 family interview with Oprah Winfrey was cancelled when an unidentified person warned Harpo productions of his actions. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God’s kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us – even though we are so undeserving.

In 2010, the Southern Poverty Law Center controversially listed FRC as an anti-gay hate group. ‘‘I deeply regret that recent media reports about my long ago past has brought negative attention to FRC Action and its work to preserve and advance the interests of family, faith, and freedom in the political arena,’’ Duggar said in his resignation letter, which was published on People magazine’s website. Recently, Michelle Duggar successfully helped a campaign to repeal a Fayetteville, Arkansas, ordinance that would have prohibited discrimination in the city on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. For Josh, he wanted not just me but my parents to know who he really was – even every difficult past mistakes.” She added: “He continued to do what he was taught. [I know] who Josh really is – someone who had gone down a wrong path and had humbled himself before God and those whom he had offended. The Duggars, who endorsed Mike Huckabee for the 2016 Republican nomination, adhere to the ‘‘Quiverfull’’ movement, which urges its followers to have as many children as God will give them. Although the number of ‘‘Quiverfull’’ adherents is small within the larger American evangelical Christian community, the Duggars’ large following and wholesome image have helped the family function as ambassadors for their way of life. The Duggars have previously promoted the teachings of Bill Gothard and The Institute in Basic Life Principles, a conservative organization that was once popular among the Christian homeschooling movement.
