Amber Heard Charged With Illegally Bringing Her and Johnny Depp’s Dogs into Australia.

SYDNEY (AP) — Johnny Depp’s wife, Amber Heard, has been charged with illegally bringing the couple’s dogs to Australia — an incident that captured global attention after the nation’s agriculture minister angrily ordered the pooches to get out of the country or face death.Amber Heard, actress and wife of Johnny Depp, was summoned to Australian court on Wednesday on charges that she and Depp brought their dogs, Pistol and Boo, into the country illegally.FILE – In this Jan. 26, 2015 file photo, U.S. actor Johnny Depp and Amber Heard arrive at Haneda international airport in Tokyo to promote his latest film ‘Mortdecai’. The false document charge, which relates to information on an incoming passenger card, carries a penalty of up to one year in prison and a fine of AU$10,200.

Heard was charged with two counts of illegal importation contrary to the quarantine act and one count of producing a false document (it was not specified what document that was). Her lawyers could petition the court to appear on her behalf, but given the seriousness of the charge, it’s likely she’ll need to appear in person, particularly if she is in Australia at that time, said Bill Potts, a criminal defense attorney based in the Queensland capital, Brisbane. If the figure is accurate, The Donald is the wealthiest person ever to run for president, far surpassing the likes of Ross Perot, Steve Forbes or Mitt Romney. The doggie debacle began in May, after Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce accused Depp, 52, of smuggling the couple’s Yorkshire terriers aboard his private jet when he returned to Australia to resume filming of the fifth movie in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.

Three Republican-led House committees say they will investigate whether Planned Parenthood is selling organs from aborted fetuses — an accusation the organization denies. A Department of Agriculture officer later escorted the tiny terriers from the couple’s mansion on Queensland’s Gold Coast to the airport, where the dogs boarded a flight to the U.S. just hours before the deadline. “The law is the same for everybody,” he told reporters in the western city of Perth. “There is no preferential treatment here. You come into our nation, you have to abide biosecurity protocols.” The prosecutor’s office would not answer questions about why Depp wasn’t charged, citing the ongoing nature of the case.
