Jewel Says She Has Been Sexually Harassed Since She Was 8 Years Old.

The singer admits she’s had her fair share of music industry insiders attempt to get her into bed, but she was prepared for the seedy side of fame thanks to her upbringing in Alaska.Country singer Jewel opened up about the disturbing sexual harassment she has faced since she was just a child in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve had men hitting on me, sadly, since I was really young,” she told THR. “At 8, I had men putting dimes in my hands saying, ‘Call me.The 41-year-old is releasing her 12th studio album, Picking up the Pieces, 20 years after the release of her debut hit Pieces of You, one of the highest selling albums of all time going 15 times platinum.

It’d be so great to f— when you’re older.’ And just horrible stuff.” The 41-year-old, who grew up in Alaska, said sexual harassment led to her homelessness after she was fired from a San Diego coffee shop for refusing to have sex with her boss. It was almost like they were sharks that could smell blood, like of vulnerability,” she said. “I’d go back to my car, writing songs, and men would literally come up and proposition me.

I was always willing to walk away. …And I think that type of spirit that you bring just informs everyone that’s around you.” Added the Grammy-nominated singer, “I learned to keep my energy to myself, where there’s nothing about me that seemed approachable. And as men did approach me, I got very good at handling men in a way that sort of didn’t anger them. …And at the same time using wit and usually humor to defuse the situation and to inform them, ‘P.S. I never took anybody up on it, but it was interesting to see this side of men that basically would prey on somebody vulnerable.” “The music industry is a very male-dominated business,” she said. “I never slept my way to the top, ever.

I felt men were willing to take advantage if they saw something vulnerable.” Jewel touches on stories about the men who would go to extremes to bed her in her new memoir, “Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story,” which will be released on September 15.
