Jessica Lange re-teaming with Ryan Murphy for Broadway Long Day’s Journey Into Night.

Jessica Lange and Gabriel Byrne will star in “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” by Eugene O’Neill next spring, the Roundabout Theatre Company announced today. Directed by Jonathan Kent, the production will begin previews on March 31, 2016, before its official April 19 opening at the American Airlines Theatre. The 66-year-old stat has previously headlined Broadway revivals of Tennessee Williams’ plays, “The Glass Menagerie” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.” “I loved Mary Tyrone,” Lange wrote in a forward to an edition of O’Neill’s play. “I longed to get to the theater each evening so I could experience her.

The last Broadway revival of O’Neill’s 1956 play — the story of the Tyrone family and their battle to unearth and conceal a lifetime of secrets, and drawing heavily on the playwright’s personal history — was a starry production in 2003, starring Brian Dennehy, Vanessa Redgrave, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robert Sean Leonard and directed by Robert Falls. Lange plays recovering morphine addict Mary Tyrone, following her Olivier Award-nominated performance in the role in a 2000 production on the West End.

The revival is being produced by the Roundabout in association with Ryan Murphy, the co-creator of the FX television series “American Horror Story,” which gave Ms. An Emmy and Oscar winner, Lange would stand a strong chance of completing the coveted EGOT should she be included in the Tony Awards conversation (so long as someone gives her a juicy audiobook to read).

Long Day’s Journey is part of RTC’s 50th anniversary season, which includes Therese Raquin (with Keira Knightley), She Loves Me (with Josh Radnor and Laura Benanti), Old Times (with Clive Owen), and Noises Off (with Andrea Martin). Murphy, who holds the stage rights to “Long Day’s Journey,” approached Todd Haimes, the theater’s artistic director, with the idea of a production with Ms.
