Jeff Daniels, Michelle Williams head to Broadway in Blackbird.

The play chronicles the reunion of Una (Williams) and Ray (Daniels), who have not seen each other since he was arrested for their sexual affair fifteen years earlier, when Una was just 12 years old.Jeff Daniels and Michelle Williams will star in a Broadway staging of “Blackbird,” the David Harrower play to be directed by Joe Mantello (“Wicked”).

Scott Rudin, the busy producer whose starry Broadway offerings this season include the upcoming revival of “The Crucible” and the musical “Shuffle Along,” will produce the play, which premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2005 before a West End transfer soon thereafter. The show made its American premiere at Off Broadway’s Manhattan Theater Club in 2007, in a production that also starred Daniels and was directed by Mantello. Daniels is a Tony Award nominee for his role opposite Hope Davis, James Gandolfini, and Marcia Gay Harden in 2009’s God of Carnage; Williams most recently made her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in Roundabout’s revival of Cabaret in 2014. Daniels’ film resume includes Dumb and Dumber, The Purple Rose of Cairo, The Squid and the Whale, The Hours, Good Night and Good Luck and Terms of Endearment. Since first winning over audiences as Jen Lindley on the hit TV show Dawson’s Creek, Williams has built an extensive film resume with roles in Brokeback Mountain (Oscar nomination), Synecdoche, New York, Blue Valentine (Oscar nomination), Shutter Island, I’m Not There., Take This Waltz, My Week with Marilyn (Oscar nomination), and Oz the Great and Powerful.

On stage, Williams appeared off-Broadway in Smelling a Rat and Tracy Letts’ Killer Joe and in Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard opposite Jessica Chastain at Williamstown Theatre Festival.
