James Franco Co-Wrote a Book About Lana Del Rey.

“Flip Side: Real and Imaginary Conversations with Lana Del Rey” is a 100 page book of stories — some real some fictitious, as the title suggests — and photographs shot by Franco and others.

He’s always done things differently, whether it’s causing outrage with a film about assasinating Kim Jong-un or conducting an interview between his straight self and gay self for an LGBT magazine. Franco hinted he was writing a book about the musician and friend back in January in an article he penned for V Magazine, musing about Del Rey’s artistry and struggle with being a stage performer. “Lana lives in her art, and when she comes down to earth for interviews, it gets messy, because she isn’t made for this earth. It’s almost better if you don’t get me exactly, but try.’” “Lana has become my friend,” Franco wrote in the tribute. “She is a musician who is a poet and a video artist.

It is being co-written by New York Times best-selling author David Shields, who Franco has worked with in the past, and is scheduled to come out in March. Actually it’s because Rey is so complex that it’s easier to interview her without actually interviewing her. “I wanted to interview Lana for a book and she said, “Just write around me, it’s better if it’s not my own words.
