2015 American Music Awards: Five Things You Didn’t See on TV.

Sunday night’s American Music Awards were downright Canadian, with big wins for The Weeknd and Canuck darling Justin Bieber, and big moments with Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette.

Jennifer Lopez was the host for the night, interestingly, opening the show with a dance routine to a medley of the year’s biggest hits, including “Where Are U Now,” “Anaconda” “Uptown Funk” and “Hotline Bling.” But it was Dion who delivered the moment of the night, with an emotional tribute to the victims of the Paris attacks with a rendition of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne a L’Amour” alongside a montage of Parisian landmarks, leaving much of the audience in tears. Harrison discussed Williams’ contributions to the movie world, including the theme songs to “Jaws,” “E.T.” and, of course, “Star Wars.” The Microsoft theatre stood still, without a peep from the audience as a new clip from “The Force Awakens” aired live during the show. Friends With AMAs Benefits: If there’s any question that Trainor and Pluth are more than just friends, you had to see what we saw after their performance—or didn’t see, that is. Her other nominations included Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist (which was won by Ariana Grande, who sang Focus), Collaboration of the Year (which went to Where Are You Now by Jack U featuring Justin Bieber) and Artist of the Year (which was given to One Direction, who performed Perfect). 1D also won Favorite Pop/Rock Duo/Band/Group.

He ended it drenched after standing under a waterfall. “I want to just thank you, the fans, for allowing me to change and have a different voice every time I come back out (with a new album),” Minaj said. “And please find your voice and find your purpose before it’s too late. Hug It Out: Bieber was so grateful for his soaking wet performance that after the applause died down, he hugged each of his dancers before leaving the stage.

Love you.” Other girls at the awards show encouraged their peers: Zendaya and Hailee Steinfeld danced excited as Selena Gomez performed onstage; Fifth Harmony and Rebel Wilson sang as Demi Lovato was in strong form with “Confident”; and Gomez sang as Grande performed “Focus” in a shimmery number. Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth’s performance got additional attention after the singers made out onstage after singing their song, “Marvin Gaye,” which features the lyrics: “Let’s Marvin Gaye and get it on.” Taylor Swift, who is out of the country shooting a music video, was the top nominee with six. YA favourite Demi Lovato also performed, alongside Morissette, in a duet of her iconic song “You Oughta Know,” making for one very classic red and white night. Nicki Minaj walked off stage arm-in-arm with Kylie Jenner after the E! reality star and supermodel Gigi Hadid presented the “Anaconda” diva with the favorite rap/hip-hop album award for her The Pinkprint. 4. Stick ‘Em Up: You’d think the pink glow sticks that were handed out to the audience for Bieber’s performance would be emblazoned with his name or one of this song titles.

Other performances came from Justin Bieber (What Do You Mean and Sorry), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Kevin), Meghan Trainor (Like I’m Gonna Love You), Charlie Puth (Marvin Gaye), Gwen Stefani (Used to Love You), 5 Seconds of Summer (Hey Everybody), Demi Lovato (Confident), Coldplay (Adventure of a Lifetime), Selena Gomez (Same Old Love), Alannis Morissette (You Oughta Know), Nick Jonas (Chains, Levels and Jealous) and Pentatonix who played the Star Wars score.
