Harrison Ford reassures us about ‘Star Wars’ … in a hot dog costume

Harrison Ford has hazy memories of plane crash.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host and his crew dressed up as a number of the most memorable Star Wars characters, with Kimmel providing his take on Princess Leia (and yes, even he’s aware how uncomfortable a Slave Leia outfit would have been). Harrison Ford showed up on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday night in the silly spirit of the season — that is, in costume — but he had serious matters to talk about.

The movie legend is known to millions as adventure hero Indiana Jones, but when the experienced pilot got into trouble in the air in March (15) the situation was far from movie-like. And while the house band didn’t perfectly recreate Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes, this may be one of the only opportunities to see Darth Vader break into a drum solo. Specifically, his small plane crash on March 5, in which he landed “battered but OK” according to his son, in a vintage World War II training plane he’d been piloting.

Luckily two doctors were there when the plane came down and were able to tend to him before ambulances arrived. “I remember the engine stopping, I remember that part very well,” he recalled. “And then I remember the tower, I remember their suggestion. Their suggestion was that I take the normal route to land and I knew I wasn’t going to do that, so I said ‘No.’ And that’s the last thing I remember until five days afterward, actually. Harrison hasn’t had much time to dwell on the accident, as he’s been busy with the latest instalment of Star Wars; the hotly anticipated Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which hits cinemas in December (15).
