Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger Join Forces on a Collection.

The 20-year-old supermodel will star in their Fall 2016 campaign and will launch her first capsule collection with the brand, created in conjunction with the American designer. “I’ve known Gigi and her family for years, and it has been amazing to watch her grow into one of the world’s top models and most-followed fashion influencers,” Hilfiger said. “Gigi has walked in our runway shows and now we are thrilled to continue our collaboration with her as the new face of Tommy Hilfiger womenswear and fragrance. She is truly the definition of today’s ‘Tommy Girl’ – her magnetic personality is bright and always optimistic, and her style is confident, effortless and cool.” With the companies set on growing their women’s range next year, they’ve hired the world’s most influential rising star, with more than 12 million followers on her social media channels. “I never thought I would be asked to design a capsule collection, so it still feels like a dream that Tommy approached me to collaborate,” she explained. “His company is one that I genuinely love and have been a fan of for my entire life, and Tommy is the easiest, most fun person to work with.

I think our collection celebrates the iconic Tommy lifestyle and mixes a bit of everything: there are styles that are really hippie-chic, styles that are sporty streetwear, and styles that are tomboy but girly; everyone’s is going to love a different part of it.” Hadid’s mother, Yolanda Foster, is a former model who starred in reality TV show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, while her father is successful property develop Mohamed Hadid.

Hadid’s last stint in a Tommy Hilfiger New York Fashion Week show made her healthy, athletic body the subject of negative comments on the social networking site Instagram, where she has a 10 million-strong following. She hit back at the body shamers, writing a defiant post which read: “Your mean comments don’t make me want to change my body… I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs.” As Hilfiger told the New York Times of his new signing, he said: “She’s not anorexic. Hilfiger has come to view that title as a boring descriptor, despite what the news release says. “Global ambassadorships are a bit overused and not too exciting,” he said in a telephone interview. “We’re really doing something different. Hadid has the poise of a budding leading lady, even if this one is still somewhat more likely to be photographed at a banquette with a former boy-band member than at the Kodak Theater during the Oscars. Hadid is nevertheless well behaved enough not to be deemed offensive to the culture at large (or to big companies like Tommy Hilfiger and Maybelline, for whom she also shoots campaigns).

Hadid is close with the Jenners, Kendall and Kylie, their pictures blasted across social media and in the tabloids (although less for drama than for what they have worn here, there and everywhere). To put it bluntly, she’s not convinced that they take modeling as seriously as she does. “They’re there every day,” she said. “And the real hard-core fans put in a lot of work to maintain that connection.
