George Strait Announces ‘Cold Beer Conversation’ Album, Las Vegas Dates.

George Strait will be among the first entertainers to play Las Vegas’ new state-of-the-art arena in April 2016, returning to the venue again next September. “Las Vegas has been a big part of my country music career,” he said in a press conference today. “It’s fun to play Vegas. . . Since the early 1980s, George Strait has been one of the biggest names in country music, and fans have flocked to see the King of Country live in concert.George Strait is set to begin his Cold Beer Conversation engagement next spring at the new Las Vegas Arena, the “King of Country Music” announced Tuesday (Sept. 22) during a live press conference streamed on his official website.

Martina McBride and George Strait perform during “George Jones Tribute — Playin’ Possum: The Final No Show,” on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. In September of 2012, Strait announced that he would be hanging up his cowboy hat and retiring from the road after his final The Cowboy Rides Away Tour. The “Troubadour” singer now joins a slew of country acts who have performed or are currently performing in Las Vegas, including Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn and The Judds.

First tickets for those shows, which will feature Kacey Musgraves as support, will go on sale Friday. “I said all along that I wasn’t going to tour anymore, but I also said I wasn’t retiring by any means, and I still wanted to do some dates,” Strait said Tuesday at a Las Vegas press conference that streamed online. Strait last gave a full concert in June 2014 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the last show of a two-year farewell tour that drew more than a million fans. “It hasn’t been all time off” since, he says. “I’ve been working a little bit here and there. Tickets got on sale October 2nd at StraitToVegas.com. 2015 may not bring everything that Back to the Future II promised it would: flying cars, self-lacing shoes, we don’t see ’em happening over the next 12 months. (Then again, don’t bet against Nike.) But this year will definitely pack plenty of punch when it comes to cultural happenings.

Strait, who after more than three decades of performing, completed his final tour last year, admits he just couldn’t stay away from the stage – and he always intended to continue to record and write. “When I’m sitting in a rocking chair somewhere, just play me a live album so I can hear the crowd again,” Strait added in a video interview shown at the press conference. “That’s what it’s all about.” You could win tickets to a 4-night luxury cruise with Florida Georgia Line! Mad Max will roar back out of the apocalypse while Mad Men rides off into the sunset, rock’s Antichrist Superstar and hip-hop’s Yeezus will rise again.
