FX’s ‘American Horror Story’ Renewed for Sixth Installment

‘American Horror Story’ renewed for Season 6.

“With the sixth installment coming next year, American Horror Story has unquestionably joined the ranks of television’s landmark series,” FX president John Landgraf said. “From Murder House to Hotel, AHS has pioneered a new television form as well as becoming FX’s highest rated show — while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity.” American Horror Story’s Lady Gaga-led current season is currently pacing ahead of all previous installments in the ratings, the network says. Not only did he direct her in Eat Pray Love five years ago, but the Oscar winner also co-starred in his HBO adaptation of the award-winning The Normal Heart. This is even more remarkable because Ryan [Murphy] and co-creator Brad Falchuk tear up the playbook every year, challenging the entire creative team to come up with something even more spectacular, frightful and entertaining. And just a couple of weeks ago, Roberts was the one who presented Murphy with his award at amfAR’s Inspiration Gala in Los Angeles. “I’ll tell you why—because I can’t even get though the commercials,” Roberts told me while promoting her new thriller Secret in Their Eyes (in theaters Nov. 20). “I am the most fitful scaredy cat. The renewal, of course, keeps Murphy in business with FX, where he’s soon set to launch American Crime Story, another anthology that in its first year will tackle the O.J.

You could not ask more of an artist, their team or a series and with every new installment they deliver.” Season five, , is currently airing with Lady Gaga, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Chloe Sevigny, Denis O’Hare, Cheyenne Jackson, Evan Peters and Finn Wittrock starring. FX may have renewed its flagship horror fest for another round to air in 2016 (presumably another 13 episodes of ungodly length), though no major details, neither cast nor concept have yet emerged. We know that Ryan Murphy has already offered Lady Gaga a role in the sixth season of the show, but whether she will take up the offer or not is yet to be seen. In a cover story with The Hollywood Reporter last month, Murphy said he’d pitched his vision to the singer-turned-actress and they were hoping to make it work with her touring schedule. Through four weeks, “American Horror Story: Hotel” was averaging a 3.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.9 million viewers overall in Nielsen’s “live plus-3” estimates, up 7% in the demo and 1% above the scores of “Freak Show” one year ago.

Gaga notably never responded (in public) to Murphy’s invitation, though worth noting are the production hurdles of the pop megastar managing her Hotel shoots with an already-busy career to begin with. However, she has said on multiple occasions that she loves working on the show, with the cast and crew, and of course with the genius that is Ryan Murphy.

Falchuk is an executive producer and writer alongside fellow executive producers Tim Minear, Brad Buecker, Jennifer Salt, James Wong and Alexis Martin Woodall.
