Best and worst actors turned musicians.

The actress – whose movie The Perfect Guy took the top spot at the box office this weekend – has been casually dating rapper French Montana, a source tells PEOPLE. With Sanaa Lathan’s recent studio debut for her single ‘Emotional’, one can only start to reflect on other actors and actresses who’ve decided to venture off into the other side of entertainment. Montana, 30, previously had an on-and-off relationship with Khloé Kardashian, and despite speculation he and reality star Dorothy Wang were dating, a source insists the two are just friends. Before Aubrey Graham became the hip hop star we’ve come to know as Drake, he was best known for his role as the wheelchair ridden basketball player Jimmy Brooks on the teen drama Degrassi.

Lathan teamed up with Detroit rapper DeJ Loaf for her debut single titled “Emotional.” The song was produced by Detail, the man behind Beyoncé’s hit “Drunk In Love” and features additional production by Choppa & Sidney. “Emotional” came about after a conversation between Sanaa and Detail. Big Boy started off his questioning with, “I just heard something with French Montana […] Are you and French dating?” Big Boy was rather buoyed by this remark, which led him to ask, “Well you just talked about your personal life, there it is. Big Boy tried to get Lathan to answer more personal questions when he asked her who she would take to a movie screening in a romantic “sharing popcorn” kind of date. It’s not easy dating someone who has love scenes with Morris Chestnut and Michael Ealy.” After Latan’s interview on the show, people decided that the fact that Sanaa Lathan didn’t take this opportunity to deny that she was dating 30-year-old French Montana was evidence that she was actually dating the rapper.

She’s my character Leah’s (in #ThePerfectGuy) ALTER EGO and her name is #BrownSugar.” Life can be amazing when you step outside your comfort zone sometimes and say yes. The 43-year-old actress neither denied or confirmed Big Boy’s suggestion that French Montana, 30, may be that guy by saying that she “doesn’t talk about her personal life.” But she did confirm something. “I am dating,” she admitted.

The actress even took to Instagram to thank those who collaborated with and inspired her on the song, and hinted at a possible ALTER EGO “Brown Sugar”. However, just over a year later, the pair’s relationship had appeared to have come to an end, with Montana admitting on a radio show that he was now single.

I just love having long talks,” she explained, to which Big Boy replied, “You definitely not dating French Montana then.” The Brown Sugar actress also revealed to Big Boy that sex scenes can be awkward — she needs someone with self-assurance to handle watching from the sidelines. “I love somebody who has a sense of humor and you know, who can laugh. The film was only made for $12 million, while it tells the story of the recently single Leah Vaughn, played by Lathan, who thinks that she’s found the man of her dreams in Carter Duncan (Michael Ealy), but he turns out to have a darker side that he’d kept hidden from her.

With chart-topping hits like 2006’s “Unpredictable” and 2009’s “Blame It”, Foxx has proved that you can be a “jack of all trades” and master of all. Eddie Murphy’s comedic legacy is undeniable, yet the SNL funnyman certainly didn’t laugh over his biggest hit, 1985’s “Party All the Time,” as much as music fans did. Fans of both entertainers are taking the news of their romance with mixed reactions. “french montana smashing sanaa lathan is proof positive that you should never think you’re out of a woman’s league. shoot ya shot, fam,” one wrote on Twitter. Another fan can’t fathom why Lathan would choose someone like the Bronx rapper. “Of all the men Sanaa has played as a Co-Star to, you choose to date French Montana!? She began her television career with roles on A Different World, and eventually transitioned into film starring in Eddie Murphy’s The Nutty Professor, Menace to Society, and Set It Off, to name a few.

Not only does he play Troy Barnes, the lovable Jehovah’s Witness on NBC’s religiously-followed comedy Community, Glover also managed to snag his own Comedy Central Special, Weirdo. But it was Gambino’s latest album Camp, his first studio album, which dropped in mid-November and spawned the hits “Bonfire” and “Heartbeat,” that has made him a serious, far from childish contender in the rap game.
