100 years after Sinatra’s birth, Hoboken’s biggest star gets one of his own.

Some young-at-heart residents of Hoboken raised their glasses to the award-winning singer and actor on Saturday on what would have been his 100th birthday. LE BOURGET, France (AP) — Nearly 200 nations adopted the first global pact to fight climate change on Saturday, calling on the world to collectively cut and then eliminate greenhouse gas pollution but imposing no sanctions on countries that don’t.

HOBOKEN — A century to the day after Frank Sinatra was born, Hoboken’s biggest star got one of this own, with a star-shaped bronze plaque mounted at the entrance to the Hoboken Historical Museum, already in the midst of a centennial exhibition on the singer and actor’s life and times. “Francis Albert Sinatra: The Voice. The “Paris agreement” aims to keep global temperatures from rising another degree Celsius (1.8 Fahrenheit) between now and 2100, a key demand of poor countries ravaged by rising sea levels and other effects of climate change. “It’s a victory for all of the planet and for future generations,” U.S. Born in Hoboken at 415 Monroe Street, December 12, 1915,” reads the blue and bronze plaque, which depicts a vintage Sure microphone like one the pencil-thin and dark-haired young Sinatra would have used to send bobby soxers swooning in the post-World War II era. About 100 Sinatra fans, young and old, gathered in the small courtyard of the historical museum, which occupies donated space in the Shipyard apartment complex on Hudson Street, near the north end of town.

The car — and a driver’s license in which his name was misspelled SINTRA — helped gain him a spot in 1935 with the singing group the Hoboken Four. WASHINGTON (AP) — There’s no legal or historical precedent for closing U.S. borders to the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims, but neither is there any Supreme Court case that clearly prevents a president or Congress from doing so. Legal experts are divided over how the high court would react to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s call for a temporary halt to Muslims entering the United States. “The court has never been faced with a challenge against a whole religion.

The names Flynn, Giammarinaro and Reznik were borne on one of several silver stars that studded the brick wall surrounding Sinatra’s bronze plaque, meaning the combined family had made a donation of $1,000 to a museum fund drive that paid for several projects beyond the Sinatra plaque or exhibit. He became a singing waiter at The Rustic Cabin in Englewood Cliffs, where he met songwriter Cole Porter, and forgot the words to Porter’s hit, “Night And Day,” the 100 Sinatra website said. I think that would raise interesting and novel questions for the court,” said Stephen Yale-Loehr, who teaches immigration law at Cornell University’s law school. RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Women across Saudi Arabia marked a historic milestone on Saturday, both voting and running as candidates in government elections for the first time, but just outside polling stations they waited for male drivers — a reminder of the limitations still firmly in place.

On Saturday evening, as part of the Sinatra centennial celebration, the museum sponsored a sold-out gala at Stevens Institute of Technology, featuring a the Swingadelic big band and Sinatra vocalists including 20-year-old Zack Alexander of Red Bank. It showed Sinatra felt there was an opportunity to “do some good for his country under the direction of the FBI.” He was “willing to do anything even if it affects his livelihood and costs him his job,” the memo said. The landmark election for local council seats was not expected to immediately advance the status of women in Saudi Arabia, who are still not permitted to drive, but it seen as a chance for them to make their voices heard as citizens. Alexander, who is as skinny as Sinatra was at that age, won raves from fans of the real thing after belting out, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “My Way,” “The Summer Wind,” and other hits of Old Blue Eyes. “The crowd was fantastic,” said Alexander, a sophomore at Hofstra University on Long Island, who wore a full tuxedo. “i could tell they were true Sinatra fans, and I enjoyed it.” Another couple at the star dedication, Brenda and Nick Lombardi, had driven from Del Rey Beach, Fla., to be at the event, playing Sinatra all the way up.

Bokhary was one of 979 women candidates vying for a seat on the country’s municipal councils, the only government body in which Saudi citizens can elect their representatives. Nick, who is 76 and used to sell produce in Fairview, said he grew up in Hoboken and that his late mother, the former Mary Masta, had been one year behind Sinatra at No. 8 School, which is now condominiums, and then at Demarest High School, which is now a middle school. “My mother went on a double date with him,” Lombardi said, added that she went as Sinatra’s friend’s date, not the budding young singer’s. “I said to my mother, ‘He didn’t pick you. The file also contained Sinatra’s mug shot, taken by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office in 1938, after his arrest on a seduction charge that was later dropped. Sinatra’s Rat Pack persona is associated with Las Vegas, but he gets credit for filling Atlantic City’s casino showrooms with top talent after he appeared in 1979 at the city’s first casino, Resorts International.

Following a show at Atlantic City’s Golden Nugget in 1983, Sinatra and Dean Martin demanded a blackjack dealer break the rules, costing the casino a $25,000 fine. AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — A Jordanian woman who came close to joining the Islamic State group described a sophisticated 14-month recruitment process by the extremists that she said landed her in a secret IS compound in Turkey with dozens of other women. Sinatra scrapped an engagement and his lawyer issued a statement saying, “He will not perform in a state where appointed officials feel the compulsion to use him as a punching bag.” People left flowers near the plaque where Sinatra’s first home once stood when he died in 1998 at age 82. The 25-year-old was eventually persuaded by Jordanian lawmaker Mazen Dalaeen — who earlier this year failed to extract his own son from the grip of IS recruiters — to return to her family.

On that trip, Foster, the museum director, took them to La Isla on Washington Street for a Cuban food when they were at a loss for what to do after the civil ceremony. The case highlights the systematic grooming of potential IS recruits through daily social media exchanges and follow-up on the ground for travel arrangements — in her case an enveloped stuffed with cash for a plane ticket to Turkey, handed to her by a veiled woman in her home district of Karak in central Jordan.

Paul Straus, 56, of Montclair, a Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen who sees parallels between the two New Jersey singers, said he was living in Hoboken when he got a look at Sinatra and President Ronald Reagan together in 1984. The woman, jobless since earning a B.A. in psychology in 2011, said IS recruiters exploited her vulnerability. “They used my frustration … promising me a new life with a job and a house,” she said in a phone conversation with Dalaeen after her return to Jordan last month. But for a saloon singer who usually had a drink on stage, Sinatra’s ultimate honor came from Jack Daniel’s, which introduced Sinatra Select whiskey in 2003.

To honor the 100th anniversary of Sinatra’s birth, Jack Daniel’s produced 100 barrels of 100-proof Sinatra Century, which retails for $499.99 and includes an unreleased Sinatra recording. Stanford’s do-it-all running back Christian McCaffrey, who broke the NCAA record for all-purpose yards in a season, was the runner-up, making it four second-place finishes for Cardinal players in seven years.

But Porter, the first officer on trial in Gray’s death, is accused of manslaughter for failing to pay enough attention to the 25-year-old black man, who was handcuffed and shackled in the back of a police van and suffered what would be a fatal spinal injury. His crime, according to prosecutors, is failing to immediately call a medic to the scene when Gray indicated he needed medical attention and ignoring a Baltimore Police Department general order requiring officers to buckle prisoners in with seat belts. But with no eye witnesses and no unequivocal evidence as to exactly how or when Gray was injured, negligence could be difficult to prove, legal experts say. That would give a well-financed campaign enough time to gather sufficient signatures on petitions so the candidate could appear on the ballot in every state.
