24 Might Come Back… Without Jack Bauer.

Jan 13. 2014: Kiefer Sutherland (R), executive producer and actor, speaks on the return of “24: Live Another Day” with actress Mary Lynn Rajskub during Fox Broadcasting Company’s part of the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter 2014 presentations in Pasadena, California (Reuters) At the TCA Winter Press Tour Fox presentation, Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO Gary Newman hinted that the network may not be done with the Kiefer Sutherland fan-favorite show, “24.” At the conference, he addressed the series, which was brought back this past year for 12 episodes with “Live Another Day.” The Fox exec implied though there are no plans yet to bring Sutherland’s show back, the network isn’t ready to close that door completely. “24,’ we have no current plans [to bring it back] though we are in discussions,” he said. “And we would love nothing more than to do another ’24.’” “24” originally ran from 2001 to 2010, and when the show signed off there was plenty of talk of a movie being in the works.A new pitch for a limited-series installment of the hit counterterrorism television show reveals a storyline that focuses on supporting characters but wouldn’t feature Kiefer Sutherland’s Emmy-winning role, Jack Bauer. 20th Century Fox TV chiefs Gary Newman and Dana Walden discussed 24 on Saturday at an executives’ Q&A session, Variety reports.Fox is mulling the returns of The X-Files, Prison Break and another run of 24, though the latter could come back without leading man Kiefer Suthlerland.Fox is hoping that the success stories from their past will be able to lead to more in the future as they are currently in talks for three big changes.

Though the film hasn’t come into fruition, the limited return of the series in 2014 drew scores of viewers and reignited rumors that movie or a return of the series was coming soon. Newman added that after the success of the “24” reboot, there was interest in bringing back several other past hits, such as “Prison Break” and “The X-Files.” He said nothing had been arranged yet, but there were discussions in the works.

She said the show would be an experiment to highlight supporting players, and added that Jack Bauer would remain the show’s central character in the long run. We’re not talking about continuing the show without him; we’re talking about whether there’s one installment that he’s not in.” “I think great characters with that creative team … I look at everyone that surrounded Kiefer in that last installment — I think it could work”, Walden said. “[The pitch] was in the very origin stages and it could have gone either way. There was a point at which Jack Bauer could come in and fit very organically into their story or they were prepared to do something that would be the one installment without him.” I think if the storytelling is exciting enough, that real-time element that the show really owns–so many of the production aspects are so unique to that show–I do [think we could do it without him].

Fox did not reveal a whole lot at all about this news bit, and they are skeptical, but interested. “There is some speculation in the press about Prison Break, which honestly was slightly news to us,” Newman said. “Although we’ve made it clear over the years to the studio that we would bring Prison Break back in a heartbeat. One of its most successful Fox shows ever, 24 made a return once already, but Sutherland already said last year he didn’t want to do any more episodes.
