Four to hit floor in ABC’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ two-night finale.

The mirrorball trophy is up for grabs as Dancing With the Stars’ fantastic four couples return for Season 21’s two-night finale (ABC, Monday, 8 p.m. It feels like this has been mostly a season of attrition, where we’ve seen how a contender has slowly made their way up the leaderboard and into the hearts of the show’s viewers. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba tells USA TODAY’s Bill Keveney that she loves the vulnerability shown by this season’s dancers, who have “really opened their hearts to let us into their journeys.” Any couple can win, she says, but Monday’s freestyle dance is key: “That sort of makes or breaks anybody in this competition.” After two dances Monday, the couple with the lowest combined judge-viewer vote will be eliminated with the three surviving couples performing two more dances in Tuesday’s finale, which will feature the return of all 13 couples. Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson (last week: 3) – We’re changing up our #4 and #3 mostly based off of Alek having a better week than we thought that he would, but we honestly think that they are both also fairly interchangeable at this point. Highlight: Nov. 3 contemporary dance “was a beauty,” but Inaba points to a dance that didn’t yield his best scores: last week’s tango. “He made a huge mistake, one most people would not recover from.

Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess (1) – At the end of Monday’s show we inferred that Nick may have been at the bottom of the contenders when combining viewer votes and the scores, but we’re not sure what to make of that.
