Carrie Mathison’s Crazy Face Stars in the ‘Homeland’ Season 5 Poster and Trailer.

The network also released a poster for the new Berlin-set season (below), but that doesn’t tell you much (and oddly enough, it doesn’t take advantage of the show’s new setting, which made Homeland the first U.S.

Showtime’s Emmy-nominated drama “Homeland” will kick off its fifth season on Oct. 4, the network announced Thursday, pairing it again on Sundays with “The Affair.” “Homeland,” up for five Emmys including best drama, will premiere at 9 p.m.Showtime’s marquee drama just released a new promotional poster to go along with its recently released teaser trailer, as well as a season five premiere date of October 4.

In addition to its move overseas, Homeland Season 5 will feature Lord of the Rings alum Miranda Otto as the Berlin Chief of Station, working under Saul, along with Inglourious Basterds star Alexander Fehling as Carrie’s boyfriend and legal counsel for the Düring Foundation, for which Sarah Sokolovic’s American journalist character works. And if there’s one thing we can discern from the new poster, it’s that Claire Danes’ Carrie Mathison is all like “whaaaaaaaat?” Season 5 picks up two years after the events last season with Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the war on terror. Showtime has announced when fans can expect to see new episodes of “The Affair,” the Golden Globe award-winning drama about cheating spouses. “The Affair” Season 2 will premiere Sunday, Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. She finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the Central Intelligence Agency and working as the head of security for a German philanthropist. In way, producers are following the template laid down by their previous spy thriller, Fox’s 24, which typically started every season with Jack Bauer in exile, then getting called back into service to face some new threat.

Season two of The Affair explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together. The Affair features Ruth Wilson as Alison, a young woman attempting to move on from tragedy and building a lasting relationship while contending with the judgment of others and her own self-doubt. Noah’s former wife Helen (Maura Tierney) is attempting to piece her life together while navigating divorce proceedings, care for her children, and her parents’ noxious influence.

It sounds like “The Affair” will reveal some much-needed answers about the mysterious circumstances surrounding the killing. “I think that we will get to the crime in the second season, whether the case is closed, I can’t say,” executive producer Sarah Treem told E!
