‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12 Trailer: “Everything Has Changed”.

Ready or not, here it comes. The first trailer for the new season of Grey’s Anatomy is finally here and, as Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) warns, “You are about to find out that everything has changed.” What’s so different?

Before: The woman now known as Meredith Grey once starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Dustin Hoffman in 2002’s Moonlight Mile, and went on to appear in Catch Me if You Can and Old School.ABC has released new photos from the upcoming season 12 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy, in which the doctors are drawn into a case whose patients will force them to reflect on the effects of bullying in their own pasts — which is likely what we’re seeing in this first photo. For those of you who felt that “Grey’s Anatomy” was potentially spending a little too much time dealing in darkness in season 11, rest assured that thinks are going to change. Well, for starters, Mer’s running through a toy-littered hallway in her mom’s old house, where’s she’s now living with Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone)—who’s got renovations on the mind. Now: Pompeo’s been at the center of Grey’s since it first premiered in 2005 — and, more recently, you might have also seen her make a cameo in Taylor Swift’s star-studded “Bad Blood” music video.

Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), both the show and its leading lady Ellen Pompeo are turning over a new leaf as viewers prepare for life without the couple that defined MFEO. Granted, much of this is helped by the fact that Meredith Grey is not going to be losing her husband again, and she can start to look towards the future. As showrunner Shonda Rhimes previously told THR, season 12 will feature the humor, snark and banter that predominated Grey’s Anatomy’s early seasons. “Meredith being a widow, surprisingly, should be funny in some ways. Before: Cinephiles will recognize Oh from The Princess Diaries, where she played Vice Principal Gupta — you know, the one who desperately (and hilariously) tries to impress the Queen in her decidedly un-glamorous high school office. ELLEN POMPEO: Doing a show this long, the challenge is to make every year fresh and new, and to give it a different feel to keep the audience engaged.

As Ellen Pompeo tells Entertainment Weekly in a new interview, one of the joys of this season in particular is that there is some joy that will come in at some point. In one brief scene from the 20-second trailer, she runs down a hallway littered with toys to find one of her new roommates smashing a hole in the wall with a sledgehammer. Now: After playing Meredith’s dark-and-twisty person for 10 seasons —and nabbing five Emmy nominations in the process — Oh left the show in 2014 to focus more on the stage. It’s a fascinating dynamic — it’s family.” Watch the promo, below. “Meredith needs support right now and she is related to them so it’s not the same as when she was living with Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George (T.R. As Pompeo told Entertainment Weekly recently, it’s called for a reason. “It’s like, Annalise Keating carries the show, Olivia Pope carries the show,” she said, referring to Viola Davis and Kerry Washington’s characters on How to Get Away With Murder and Scandal, respectively. “But somehow, Meredith Grey needs someone.

That’s what makes it interesting and complex, and anytime we can rely on Ellis as a character to justify some of Meredith’s decisions, that’s always helpful in playing her. Ideally, you’d like to take the bad things from your childhood and make them make you a better person — in your real life anyway — so I’d like to think that Meredith does the same thing. We’re going to start seeing Meredith begin exploring the question of “Once you’ve had a perfect love and a perfect marriage, with the perfect guy, what do you do next?” A part of her is definitely going to wonder if the best parts of her love life are already behind her.
