Ellen DeGeneres Discusses Caitlyn Jenner’s “Confusing” Gay Marriage Views.

While sitting down for Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show on Tuesday, DeGeneres admitted she’s usually the last to know when gossip sites claim her 7-year marriage to Portia de Rossi is on the rocks.Ellen DeGeneres was taken aback by Caitlyn Jenner’s view on same sex marriage, which the talk show host discussed with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show Tuesday.

In an interview with radio host Howard Stern that aired Tuesday, DeGeneres was honest when Stern asked her if she hated being a judge on the singing competition series. When pressed about why she took the job in the first place, DeGeneres explained, “As a fan of the shows, it doesn’t matter that I sing or I know anything about pitch or anything, I’m like everybody else at home. We’re kind of flattered because for a while no one cared about us and we thought ‘Oh, lesbians aren’t worthy of tabloid stories’ so now we’re kind of flattered that they care about us.” DeGeneres then set the record straight: she and de Rossi are not living separate lives or headed for a messy, drawn-out $220 million divorce battle.

But the 65-year-old followed with the fact that she would not stand in the way of anyone’s happiness. “She still has a judgment about gay marriage,” DeGeneres said of Jenner. “And I said, ‘You’re wanting people to understand and accept you … and you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage.’ ” “Here’s a person on TV crying, ‘I want to be myself, I want to be genuine, I don’t want people to ridicule me’ and then says in the same breath, ‘Gee, gay marriage, I don’t get it,’ ” Stern said. “It’s remarkable.” “I don’t really know her, and I’m trying to understand it because I don’t fully understand it either, but I also want everyone to be happy,” DeGeneres said. “But I don’t fully understand all of that, but I want her to be happy, which is what I want for her for me.” So I thought, ‘I’m going to represent these people at home that have opinions and like somebody or don’t.’ But then I just thought, ‘I can’t break this person’s heart. Late last year, DeGeneres devoted a monologue on her talk show to dispelling the reports. “It’s so ridiculous to me,” she said. “There’s not one ounce of truth to any of it. I’m thinking, ‘I don’t quite get it.’ ” The 65-year-old, who publicly debuted her transition in June, went on to say that her views had evolved over time, saying that she didn’t “ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.” In her interview with Stern, DeGeneres expressed her confusion at some of Jenner’s statements: “She goes, ‘Well, if the word marriage is that important…’ And I was like, ‘It is. Because that’s the word.’ We want the same thing, everybody.” When asked by Stern if Jenner danced with her like previous guests, DeGeneres joked that the I Am Cait star perhaps “didn’t want to dance with me because I’m a lesbian.”
