Drake & Future reveal title, cover art and release date for anticipated joint project.

UPDATE: At 11:00 p.m, the website Drake had allegedly set up to announce the release of his new mixtape revealed nothing but a looping video of the rapper from his Degrassi days laughing. The talk is true: Drake and Future, long rumored to be working together on a full-length project, are set to drop a new mixtape called What A Time To Be Alive on us very, very soon. Rumors have swirled about a possible mixtape for weeks, starting with some since-deleted cover artwork on Twitter and a now-clearly trollish countdown clock, which reached the zero hour last night with no mixtape in sight. The mixtape has been rumoured for weeks (it all started when The Brekafast Club host Angela Yee accidentally asked rapper Charlamagne tha God what was happening with the aforementioned tape), but it wasn’t until today that a website popped up with an “official countdown” to the release.

Drake reportedly told an audience Friday night the collab was coming: “Take a break from Views, now it’s back to that, and me and Future got a tape before that,” the Canadian rapper said at a music festival in Atlanta. Either way it’s a sure bet we’ll find out on Sunday’s episode of OVO Sound radio on Beats 1, which Drake dubbed “OVO FREEBANDZ RADIO” and looks like it’ll feature Future, Metro Boomin’ and DJ Esco. So, gather ’round hustlers, that’s if you’re still living, because the tape now has a due date, an album cover (not the codeine-covered owl that has maneuvered through the Internets these past few days) and a title. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the two rappers -both at the top of their games and top of the charts- would collaborate on an entire album together.

After teasing us with cryptic, collab-suggesting pics and guest performances in the 6 (Toronto), Drake made the official announcement on his Instagram page Saturday afternoon with this icy photo. For a while, we worried this mixtape would never happen, but now it’s okay to set aside some time in your schedule, pour yourself a glass of wine and put on your favorite pair of headphones. Drake recently let loose an Instagram post revealing that he has his Free Bandz compadre plan to make this a full-blown event that should rival attention spans towards the return of the NFL.

Back when Drake was first coming up and releasing smaller mixtapes, he constantly gave a shout out to his, “brother Future,” including on his chart topping, “I’m Still Fly.” Since then, Future has paid him back and hosted Drake on a number his tracks. Future confirmed the news with an Insta post of his own, showing Drake grinning and spitting rhymes, even as Future and a whole host of guests sit down to a nice meal at the dinner table. Look out for the anticipated project dropping in the early hours of Monday morning and in the meantime keep bumping the duo’s latest collab here….

Most recently, Drake surprised thousands of fans at an event in Toronto for Ryerson University’s Frosh Week that Future was performing at, taking the stage with his longtime friend and soon-to-be Toronto political legend, Norm Kelly. Drizzy released another mixtape, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, back in February, and Future’s latest album, DS2, just dropped in July (and featured Drake on the song “Where Ya At”). A countdown was erected, claiming that the title of the project was Put It All In A Plastic Bag, a phrase that originated from this Instagram post by Drake. There’s no word on whether or not the mixtape will be free to download or will be available to purchase through services like iTunes, but it looks like fans may be able to download it at 12:00 a.m.
