‘I’m going to hurt you really bad’: Jared Leto portrays a menacing Joker as Margot Robbie wields a bat in ominous first trailer for Suicide Squad.

Fans and Hollywood converged on the San Diego waterfront for another turbulent weekend of pop culture as the event’s 46th edition came to a satisfying, if slightly controversial, end on Sunday. All of the squad are present and accounted for here, including Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Will Smith’s Deadshot. After attendees at Comic Con were buzzing about the sneak peek to the new trailer over the weekend (and a casual leak of a bootleg version), Warner Brothers was forced to decided to offer up the trailer to the rest of the public. The three-minute preview gave a little more insight into the mysterious project which stars Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Cara Delevingne among several others.

The film, which follows a group of DC Comic supervillians, stars Jared Leto as the Joker, as well as Will Smith, Viola Davis, Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney. Mega film and TV franchises like “Star Wars,” “Game of Thrones” and “Batman v Superman” electrified fanboys and fangirls in Hall H with new footage, extensive Q&A’s and even a few memorable selfies. But the icing on the cake – and, let’s be honest, the one we’re all here to see – is Jared Leto’s Joker, complete with green hair and manic evil laugh. The 43-year-old Oscar winner looked almost unrecognisable with pasty white make-up and neon green hair as he looked like he was administer electric shock torture on a victim.

But some of the weekend’s never-before-seen clips gradually leaked online to the frustration of studios, despite the event’s strict “no filming” policy. The clip begins with government agents talking over dinner including Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, who makes an interesting suggestion: ‘I want to assemble a task force of the most dangerous people on the planet who I think could so some good.’ ‘And if anything goes wrong we blame them, we have built them deniability. Getting people to act against their own self interest is what I do for a living.’ It quickly transitions to inside of a high-security prison, giving the first look of 25-year-old Robbie in her role as fan-favourite baddie Harley Quinn. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. The movie first look takes on a decidedly creepy tone (complete with even creepier soundtrack), and it’s one that isn’t sitting too well with more than a few fans.

Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. “We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.” It’s worth noting that filming barely wrapped before this first-look trailer was put together, but leave it to Twitter not to give a filmmaker a break. Let’s go save the world!’ Seen for a short period of time was Batman, portrayed by Ben Affleck, who is shown momentarily while clutching onto the top of Joker’s shiny pink Ferrari. Warner Bro.’s marketing chief Sue Kroll addressed the leak in a statement: ‘It’s unfortunate and ultimately damaging that one individual broke a long-standing trust we have enjoyed with our fans at the convention by posting early material, which, at this point, was not intended for a wider audience.’ The blockbuster movie derived from DC Comics is centred around a secret government agency who recruits imprisoned supervillains to perform missions swapped for clemency.

Started in 1970, Comic-Con has become crucial promotion event for Hollywood in recent years, with stars and talent traveling from around the world to promote their films and TV shows. The Internet’s favorite man was there promoting Crimson Peak, but we couldn’t stop talking about his hilarious impression of Captain America’s Chris Evans and costar Jessica Chastain that he showed off just for us. The trailer for Ryan Reynold’s R-rated portrayal of the beloved comic book character blew fans’ minds so much that Hall H demanded they play it again. The Comic-Con trailer showed that not only was Bruce Wayne there during the destruction of Metropolis in Man of Steel, but it looks like his family might have been collateral damage. McAvoy said himself he was a “walking penis joke.” And then there was the moment when they reenacted a very homoerotic scene from the movie…(see photo above).

And unfortunately, he’s following Heath Ledger’s remarkable, Oscar-winning performance in The Dark Knight, so people weren’t really taking him seriously.
