Cosby lawyers: Release of deposition broke settlement terms.

Bill Cosby’s lawyers on Thursday asked a judge to hold an accuser’s attorney responsible for the release of the comedian’s deposition in a 2005 Pennsylvania case, The Associated Press reports.PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bill Cosby, once the very public pride of Temple University, parted ways with the school last year amid allegations that he had drugged and sexually assaulted women.

He wore his Temple t-shirt on his popular TV show, routinely spoke at the school’s commencement ceremonies and hosted a convocation class for freshmen: “Cosby 101.” Cosby has never admitted sexually assaulting a woman, nor has he been criminally charged. Now that his own words show behavior that was at least unsavory, his lawyer is feeling heat for continuing to serve as the chairman of the university’s board of trustees. But in the wake of more recent revelations — his statements during a deposition a decade ago describing how he got drugs to offer to women — some at Temple are asking about another member of the school’s board: Its chairman, Patrick J. O’Connor, who represents Cosby in the case. “I think he should step down,” said Arthur Hochner, president of the Temple Association of University Professionals and an associate professor of human resource management at the Fox School of Business and Management. He read about the deposition over the weekend, he said, and that’s when he learned that O’Connor was serving as Cosby’s lawyer. “I was very concerned, because the case that was brought was by a former Temple employee charging he [Cosby] was molesting her while he was a trustee.

Experts are split on whether O’Connor’s work for Cosby constituted a clear conflict of interest. “In my experience, the highest standards of ethical behavior and the best interest of Temple have always guided the chairman’s leadership and relationship to the university,” Temple President Neil Theobald said in a statement this week. The depositions are the only time Cosby is known to have responded under oath to claims by more than two dozen women that he drugged them, molested them or made unwanted sexual advances. In the deposition, Cosby also admitted that he obtained prescriptions for quaaludes in the 1970s in order to give them to women he was pursuing for sex, even as he remained sober. The Constand case had stayed largely out of view from 2006 until last year, when comedian Hannibal Buress called out Cosby’s behavior onstage and more accusers came forward.

In their petition Thursday, Cosby’s lawyers also criticize Constand for tweets they say violate the agreement, including one last year in which she said, “I won’t go away, there is a lot more I will say.” Swift tweeted Thursday that she thought she was “being called out” by Minaj. I’m sorry, Nicki.” Minaj and Swift traded words Tuesday on Twitter after MTV announced the nominees for the VMAs, where Swift is the leader with nine. It’s a very difficult situation to be in: Does the controversy, and his continued presence, harm the university?” O’Connor had already raised some eyebrows at the school, after a reporter at Philadelphia Magazine wrote that, when asked about whether the Temple board should have more female trustees, he responded with an expletive saying he was tired of the question and asking if the reporter was an imbecile. Minaj was upset she didn’t earn a nomination for video of the year for “Anaconda.” She launched a series of tweets about how slim women earn top nominations and later said black female entertainers don’t get enough credit for their influence on pop culture.

O’Connor later apologized for the remarks, saying the board had been under stress at the time because of Cosby’s resignation, according to the student newspaper, the Temple News. Minaj is nominated for three awards, including best female video and hip-hop video for “Anaconda.” Swift’s nominations include best female video, pop video and collaboration. The mural under a north Philadelphia train bridge had been deteriorating, but its slated removal was moved up amid the new details about Cosby, said Cari Feiler Bender, spokeswoman for the city’s Mural Arts Program. Cosby has not been charged with any crimes, though he is the subject of a recent criminal investigation in California and a pending civil lawsuit in Massachusetts.

Constand alleged that Cosby offered her pills that she said he described as herbal medication to help her relax, but that she came to believe later were a more powerful drug because of the effect the pills had on her, court files show. O’Connor rose from a working-class family in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to become one of the first partners at what’s now known as Cozen O’Connor, a law firm that ranks among Philadelphia’s largest.

According to MDC, Brown and his Canadian promoter John Michael Pio Roda, backed out of a New Year’s Eve concert in 2014 after being paid in full for a $1 million contract. Cosby’s deposition revealed details of other sexual encounters with various women and his acknowledgement that he acquired Quaaludes to offer during encounters. The AP says the legal counsel for Iglesia ni Cristo is seeking the government’s assistance in bringing around a criminal complain for fraud against Brown and Pio Roda. In an unrelated issue, Brown’s Saturday gig in Jakarta, Indonesia, has been canceled due to safety concerns after recent unrest in the Papua province.

Cosby’s statement on his resignation continued: “I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students.
