Bill Cosby Given Warm Reception In Turlock Despite Looming Sex-Assault Claims.

TURLOCK (CBS/AP) — Bill Cosby was embraced by fans on Sunday during his first performance in California since allegations of past sexual assaults surfaced. DENVER – Bill Cosby performed to a welcoming Denver audience, despite a protest by some 100 people chanting “Rape is not a joke!” and “No means no!” outside the theater.Bill Cosby might have been heckled by countless protesters at a string of comedy shows in Canada over the last few weeks, but he was met with applause and cheers as he took his tour to California on Saturday.Suzette Sims, who held a sign that read “I Believe The Women”, said she was disappointed there were not more protesters but added that she felt she had to stand up for Cosby’s accusers.DENVER (CBS4) – Bill Cosby has been facing allegations by numerous women who claim the comedian drugged and sexually assaulted them, and one of them is a Denver native.

The first of Cosby’s two performances Saturday came after a woman held an afternoon news conference at a nearby hotel to accuse him of sexually assaulting her in 1986. It came just days after Cosby vowed to carry on with the gigs, saying he’s “far from finished” amid sexual assault allegations made against him by more than 20 women – all of which he has denied.

Some, like Cosby fan from Modesto Wilda Hansen, said they would back up their favorite comedian as long as he hasn’t been charged or proven guilty of anything. Joined by women’s rights attorney Gloria Allred, Beth Ferrier spoke out in Denver on Saturday at a planned news conference near the location where Cosby performed two shows. “He offered me coffee. According to local reports, after the audience cheered him and laughed along throughout, Cosby said: “Please, God bless you all, from my family to you.” “Dear Fans: I have thousands of loyal, patient and courageous fans that are going to leave their homes to enjoy an evening of laughter and return home feeling wonderful. The performance was scheduled before the spate of allegations against Cosby became public, and the theater refused to return tickets to those who changed their minds. I’m ready!” He said in the statement. “I thank you, the theatre staff, the event organizers and the Colorado Community for your continued support and coming to experience family, fun entertainment.”

Beth Ferrier said during the gathering called by Los Angeles lawyer Gloria Allred that Cosby put drugs in her coffee when she went to see one of his shows in Denver. “I cannot tell you how horrific of a feeling that is,” she said, adding that the next thing she remembered was waking up hours later in the back of her car “practically naked”. But this time, security and police stood on guard on all sides of the building as Cosby went on inside, with no disruptions – and no references to the 15-plus women accusing him of drugging and assaulting them. People Magazine reported that on the Buell Theatre stage Saturday night Cosby didn’t make any mention of the protests against him taking place outside or the scandal surrounding him. All it takes is for one person to say something, then you have all these other people wanting to get their 15 minutes of fame,” he said of Cosby’s accusers.

He did not make any reference to the allegations during the two-hour performance. “I believe that if you’re not convicted of a crime, then why should you be judged? About 25 demonstrators gathered outside, chanting “no means no” and “Colorado believes the women.” But inside the venue, the crowd warmly welcomed Cosby. Chloe Goins’ attorney said that his client is the first woman accusing Cosby of sexual misconduct whose case may fall within the statute of limitations. Comments that are judged to be defamatory, abusive or in bad taste are not acceptable and contributors who consistently fall below certain criteria will be permanently blacklisted.
