Avengers: Age of Ultron deleted scene featuring Thor in Nord Cave released online by Marvel.

A new deleted scene from The Avengers: Age Of Ultron has given us some new shirtless Chris Hemsworth and we will never say no to shirtless Chris Hemsworth.

It turns out this scene was supposed to be a lot longer, but with Whedon not wanting to cut down on scene’s set in Hawkeye’s home, it was cut down dramaticaly. But lest you think it was all eye candy all the time, the scene also offers more context for that moment during the film when Chris’s Norse god Thor and Stellan Skarsgard’s Erik Selvig enter the Norn cave to decipher Scarlet Witch’s visions. The Norn are female beings who decide the destiny of the Gods and after taking a shot of the strong stuff for some bravery, Thor enters the water to become possessed by them. This, however, lead to some major problems with the actual storytelling, and the film was criticised for not developing some main points, particularly Thor’s story in which the Asgardian visits an underground pool to find out how to deafeat Ultron.

Erik then asks the questions as the Norn speak through Thor, and as director Joss Whedon revealed earlier in the year, ‘Chris got to do something different, and he really threw himself into it, and he did a beautiful job, but it wasn’t well regarded by the test audiences’. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his awful plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Many serious fans felt it had been added just to set up the story for Avengers: Infinity Wars, without actually serving any real purpose in that particular movie. Speaking to Empire magazine’s podcast team, Joss added that the reason it didn’t test well was ‘probably largely because it was a rough cut with no effects, but also because it’s something that in a Thor movie would work brilliantly, but in this movie is just a little too left of centre’.

But now we have this deleted scene, which doesn’t explain what the pool is, or how Thor knew about it, but at least lends some much-needed context to the moment. They happen to talk about infinity stones that further hint at how important the stones will prove to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase three. Speaking about the stone in Loki’s sceptre, the Norn-possessed Thor says: “It was never his, it is of the six, the infinite six cannot be joined or kept apart.” The Norns are characters from Norse mythology (like Thor, Loki, Odin, etc.) who control fate.

They often appear in various other works including Shakespeare’s Macbeth where they were called The Three Witches, the Scottish equivalent of Norns. From what we know so far, it seems like Infinity Wars will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes clash with the mad Titan, Thanos who’s been observing all the action from afar in the movies.
