The First Look at Tina Fey’s New Netflix Comedy.

Armed with just a backpack, light-up runners, and a couple of old library books, she’s ready to take on a world she didn’t even think existed anymore. After putting her savvy spin on the teen comedy (Mean Girls) and the workplace sitcom (30 Rock), Tina Fey breathes new life into the tired “girl in the big city” show with Netflix’s The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.Tina Fey has always forged her own path through the world of comedy—so it makes sense that for her first show since 30 Rock, she’s opted to go the nontraditional route of streaming. Wide-eyed but resilient, nothing is going to stand in her way and she quickly finds a new job (working for 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski), a new roommate (30 Rock’s Tituss Burgess), and a new beginning.

The Office’s Ellie Kemper stars as a young woman plucked from a doomsday cult and dropped into New York City, catching up on everything she’s missed. Netflix will launch in Australia in March, with what will initially be a smaller line-up, missing key shows like Orange is the New Black and Better Call Saul which Foxtel’s Presto and Fairfax/Nine owned Stan have the rights to respectively. The show has since been picked up by the executives at Netflix, who know a thing or two about the kind of quirky humor Fey’s known for (see: Bojack Horseman). She ends up rooming with a black gay street performer (Tituss Burgess) and nannying for a snooty Upper East Side-type mom (played by a typically over-sarcastic Jane Krakowski). And while the trailer—which looks like a recap of the first episode—seems to undersell the show’s plot, Netflix is hopeful for its future: The network has already picked up the show for a second season ahead of its March 6 premiere, when all season 1 episodes will be available for binge-watching.
