Former child actor who voiced ‘Charlie Brown’ in the 1960s is sentenced to four years in prison for threatening to attack his trailer park manager.

The man who as a child provided the voice for beloved “Peanuts” character Charlie Brown is headed to prison, despite a last-ditch effort to withdraw his guilty plea to charges of making criminal threats. When he entered his guilty pleas last month in San Diego Superior Court, he admitted sending threatening letters to a manager at a mobile home park in Oceanside where he had been living, saying he would harm the manager and his wife. The sentencing comes following a last ditch effort by his attorney to withdraw Robbins’ guilty plea on his client’s behalf, however the request was denied. William Chidsey Jr, a retired Los Angeles Superior Court judge who was brought in to handle the case after San Diego judges recused themselves, sentenced the former actor to four years and eight months in prison.

On Monday, Renee Brophy, who manages the Laguna Vista mobile park home with her husband Patrick, spoke during court on behalf of her family and residents. From age 9 to 13, Robbins was the voice of Charlie Brown in a series of 1960s animated classics, including A Charlie Brown Christmas and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. She said that Robbins, who she described as a ‘broken person’, sent ‘rude, crude and graphic messages and drawings’ to her husband, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. She called Robbins a “broken person” and expressed some empathy for whatever hardships Robbins had gone through in his life to make him behave as he had.

The child actor was arrested in January 2013 for stalking his former partner Shawna Kern, allegedly calling her as many as 37 times in 24 hours, telling her he would kill her and her son. Robbins, who famously gave voice to Charlie Brown’s screams of frustration in the 1960s television show, also stalked his former girlfriend’s plastic surgeon, Lori Saltz, blaming the breast enlargement she performed on his ex for their breakup. He was sentenced to one year in county jail and five years on probation, and was ordered to enroll in a drug treatment program and pay $15,000 in restitution to Lori Saltz.
