Caitlyn Jenner apologises for saying trans women shouldn’t look like men in dresses.

Caitlyn Jenner’s coming out may have pushed trans issues onto the international agenda – but that doesn’t mean she’s necessarily the best LGBTI role model. The year’s most masterful rollout — of Olympic champion Bruce Jenner coming out as Caitlyn (spearheaded by Rogers & Cowan’s Alan Nierob) — hit its apex with Diane Sawyer’s April 20/20 interview, which drew more than 20 million viewers.NEW YORK—Diane Sawyer’s interview with Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, when the former Olympian announced, “I am a woman,” is among the 16 winners of the 2016 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards honouring work in broadcast, digital and documentary journalism. All of these people are my brothers and my sisters, and I am fighting alongside them, too.” Following the apology, trans writer Brynn Tannehill penned an open letter to Jenner, published on Huffington Post, advising her to “take a sabbatical to go experience the things necessary to understand the community” before she acts as a spokesperson. “You won’t be able to understand where most queer people are coming from until you understand our absolute dread of conservative, republican politicians…
