Bristol Palin calls off wedding one week out from the ceremony.

“Bristol and Dakota couldn’t be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding,” the former Alaska governor wrote. “They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held.” She added that the Palin and Meyer families would still gather for a barbecue in Kentucky, where the wedding was supposed to be held, to “celebrate life, in general!” She also included the following statement from her daughter. “Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about ‘secret wives,’ Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement.

In a Facebook post Monday, Sarah Palin announced that her 24-year-old daughter and the 26-year-old war hero would no longer be getting married this Saturday. Bristol released a statement via her mother “clearing up rumors that tabloids salivate over” (aka false reports claiming Dakota was still married to his first wife). As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency.” It was reported last week that Meyer had married another woman, Cassandra Wain, in May 2008, and that he’d hidden his previous marriage from Bristol.

Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers.” Bristol, who has competed on two seasons of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, had announced the engagement on her blog in March, writing that Meyer proposed at a Rascal Flatts concert. It’s better to wait a while and have things fall into place than to rush and having things fall apart.” The news comes following rumours that Meyer, who won a Medal of Honor – America’s highest military honour – for his service in Afghanistan in 2011, had a secret wife and family. Many friends and family still look forward to getting together that day in Kentucky anyway – and the Palins and Meyers are happily looking forward to still being at “the old Kentucky home” on May 23 to celebrate life, in general! However, in a statement delivered through her mother’s Facebook account, Bristol denied the rumours, saying she knew about Meyer’s previous wife and that the couple had legally divorced. Bristol Palin first entered the spotlight aged 17, when her teenage pregnancy coincided with her conservative mother’s nomination for Vice President in the 2008 US presidential election.

Kris Jenner has responded to her former husband’s decision to identify as a woman, telling him that the situation was hard for her to “wrap [her] head around”. In an emotional scene during the second (and final) part of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians: About Bruce special, which aired on Monday, Kris, 59, sat down with ex-husband Bruce, 65, to discuss his revelations. “They still live inside me. But I’ve got a struggle in my life … In so many ways, I’ve lived my entire life running away from me and who I am.” Kris, who married Bruce in 1991 after splitting from her lawyer husband the late Robert Kardashian, replied that she was confused by Bruce’s decision, and did not think that this would be the “end result” of their relationship, even though they had divorced in 2013. “I just miss Bruce. And that’s going to take me a minute to mourn that relationship; you think you’re going to grow old with somebody, and they drastically change over the course of just a few years,” she said. “All I have really is my memories.

While there were some comical moments (Kim realising that Bruce had been stealing her clothes, for example), it was overwhelmingly a raw look at the effect of a person’s decision to speak openly about their gender transition has on those who are closest to them.
