It has been 11 years since Steven Spielberg directed Tom Hanks in a feature film, but the oft-connected collaborators will reunite in October for Bridge of Spies, Spielberg’s Cold War drama about a Brooklyn insurance claims lawyer tasked with negotiating the release of a captured American U-2 spy plane pilot. “I think the character that Tom Hanks plays, James B.Tom Hanks as James Donovan, Mark Rylance as Rudolf Abel and Billy Magnusson as Douglas Forrester in ‘Bridge of Spies’ (Photo © DreamWorks II Distribution Co., LLC and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation) Why hasn’t there been more buzz about ?

In the new trailer for Dreamworks’ “Bridge of Spies,” Tom Hanks is described as “Standing Man” to emphasize the fact that he never gives up and stands up for what he believes in. We’re just a month away from its theatrical release and there hasn’t been any news about this thriller written by Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen, directed by Steven Spielberg, and starring Spielberg’s frequent collaborator, Tom Hanks. The biographical drama follows Brooklyn insurance lawyer James Donovan (Hanks), who risks his reputation and his family’s safety to ensure a fair trial for Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance), a Soviet spy arrested by the FBI in 1957.

The first trailer dropped back in June and a new trailer has finally arrived for the DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures release which is set to open on October 16, 2015. looks like the sort of film that has “potential Oscar contender” written all over it, yet it seems to be taking a fly-under-the-radar approach to opening in theaters. Boasting an abundance of Oscar-friendly tropes, Spielberg’s latest is based on the inspiring real events surrounding a Brooklyn lawyer (Hanks) who is tasked with venturing to the other side of the Iron Curtain to defend a wayward KGB spy. It’s Abel who takes to calling Donovan the Standing Man, as he reminds the captured Soviet of a man from his childhood. “This man, my father’s friend, he was beaten.

Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks (Saving Mr Banks) leads a cast which includes Amy Ryan (Birdman), Mark Rylance (The Gunman) and Alan Alda (What Women Want). Acting against every fiber in his being, Hanks’ James Donovan is originally assigned to locate and free a captured America pilot, who crashed his U-2 airplane behind enemy lines.

The film is produced by Spielberg, Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King serving as executive producers.
