Bran Is Officially Returning For ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6.

Older faces to be exact. Actor Isaac Hempstead Wright confirmed that he’s returning as Bran Stark for season six after sitting out season five, Entertainment Weekly reported. “I can’t say a lot, but I am back this season, and it’s going to get particularly interesting with Bran,” Wright told the Irish Examiner. “He has some interesting visions.” He said he doesn’t know whether co-star Kit Harington (Jon Snow) will return after his apparent death scene. “I don’t know [if he will come back].Last year, Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor, let it slip that he and Isaac Hempstead Wright’s Bran wouldn’t appear in Season 5 of “GoT.” We certainly didn’t see either of them during the season. Stars Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and others skirted that pointed question last week during a panel at Comic-Con in San Diego. Previously, Thrones showrunner David Benioff compared Bran’s season-long absence while he develops his warg skills with the Three-Eyed Raven to Luke Skywalker training in the Star Wars saga. “Like, it would be far less interesting, after The Empire Strikes Back to have an hour-long movie in between Empire and Return of the Jedi where Luke is training,” Benioff said. “It’s so much cooler to cut from end of Empire to beginning of Return, where he’s become the Jedi.”

Bran’s return could mean the confirmation of a popular Game of Thrones fan theory that we’ll see a flashback to (more potential book spoilers) the Tower of Joy. But he sees another side to the widely known “kidnapping” of Lyanna that could hint at a possible appearance by our favorite “deader than dead” character, Jon Snow (R+L =J forever).

In his Irish Examiner interview, young Wright says he hasn’t watched the fifth season at all due to being “right in the middle of my exams.” However, though, he has heard about Snow’s death. While actor Kit Harington says is character is gone for good, Wright wishes — like the rest of us — that this wasn’t so. “I wish he would because I love Kit and because the character’s so cool,” Wright says. “Who knows?

Though Hodor is obviously the fan favorite, I’m not sure we can expect much from his character other that the occasional, delightful disyllabic interjection. If you thought just you and your friends were concerned about Jon Snow’s whole deal, well take solace in knowing even the president of the United States wants to know what exactly is happening with the beloved character. As the popular theory goes, this promise could reveal Jon Snow’s true parentage — that Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen are his biological parents, according to theories. Director David Nutter confirmed President Obama asked whether the show had truly killed off Harington’s character and Nutter confirmed that Jon Snow is f’real dead.

A casting call for the new season included a “Legendary Fighter” whose description is strikingly similar to that of Arthur Dayne, hinting that the show may introduce him. The network has announced two new castles in Spain as filming locations for Season 6, the Castillo de Zafra, in the Guadalajara province, and the Castillo Santa Florentina, in Canet de Mar.

But with many of the secrets of Westeros lost and gone forever after the death of characters like Aemon Targaryen, Ned Stark, Tywin Lannister, etc., it might be up to Bran and his visions to uncover some of the lingering mysteries of the realm. In Bran’s last chapter in the book the mysterious Bloodraven—you remember, the guy who was entangled in all those tree roots—told him: Once you have mastered your gifts, you may look where you will and see what the trees have seen, be it yesterday or last year or a thousand ages past … Let’s also not forget that if we do get a vision of the showdown, it would mean the return of Ned Stark, and Sean Bean still has hope he may return to the show. The singers carved eyes into their heart trees to awaken them, and those are the first eyes a new greenseer learns to use … but in time you will see well beyond the trees themselves.
