Blake Shelton Expects a Ribbing at Upcoming CMA Awards Show.

Blake Shelton admitted this year’s CMA Awards are going to be “awkward.” The “Voice” coach and his ex-wife Miranda Lambert will walk the red carpet solo for the first time in eight years.

Bumping into his ex at country music’s biggest night isn’t the only uncomfortable moment Shelton is prepared for; the “Sangria” singer is ready for CMA cohost Brad Paisley’s jokes about his divorce. “This year’s gonna be awkward at the CMAs, speaking of jokes,” Shelton said on “Late Night With Seth Meyers. “Because we are, it’s such a family. You have to address the elephant in the room.” And Shelton told Paisley he’s happy to be fair game. “We’ve had conversations like, ‘OK dude, I’ll go sit there and let you kick me in the face a few times.’ I know it’s coming,” he said, summing up the friendly vibe of Nashville. “If you’re in the country industry, it really is a family —a big, inbred family Shelton is nominated in two categories at the 49th CMAs: Male Vocalist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year, for his duet with Ashley Monroe “Lonely Tonight.” The awards air live from Nashville Wednesday, November 4th, at 8:00 p.m./ET on ABC. 2015 may not bring everything that Back to the Future II promised it would: flying cars, self-lacing shoes, we don’t see ’em happening over the next 12 months. (Then again, don’t bet against Nike.) But this year will definitely pack plenty of punch when it comes to cultural happenings. Mad Max will roar back out of the apocalypse while Mad Men rides off into the sunset, rock’s Antichrist Superstar and hip-hop’s Yeezus will rise again. Our editorial staff just discussed their 2015 CMA Award winner predictions on the first episode of our brand new podcast, NCW Writers Room—check it out!

The team recently brought on Rihanna as a celebrity mentor, and Shelton, whom Us Weekly has already reported is flirting up a storm with fellow judge Gwen Stefani, noted that he was trying to catch the attention of the “FourFiveSeconds” singer. “She’s such a smart-ass,” he said of Rihanna. “I never could get the upper hand with her.
