‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 21, Episode 1 Recap: Bindi Irwin, Nick Carter take top scores on DWTS season 21 premiere.

BINDI Irwin wowed audiences with a bubbly jive to flaunt her breathtaking transition from the bush to the ballroom as part of USA’s Dancing With The Stars. The competition kicked off with a pre-recorded opening number on Hollywood Blvd., and featured mainly low-scoring dances with heartthrob Nick Carter and child actress, Bindi Irwin, tying for the top spot of the night. And in a fitting tribute to her dad’s legacy, the 17-year-old Queenslander chose none other than Elton John’s Crocodile Rockfor the show’s Monday night premiere.

Host Tom Bergeron kicked off the evening by explaining that he was wearing a pocket square to honor Len Goodman, who gave up his spot at the judges’ table after last season (and who apparently really loved Tom’s pocket squares). With her locks coiffed in curls, Bindi’s brown eyes were accentuated with lashings of black eyeliner and mascara and has a shade of brown of lipstick applied. ‘Everything I do in life is to make him proud and to carry on his legacy, and so I really am dedicating this entire—however long I’m able to make it—to him, to my family, to other people who are in a similar position.’ Her energetic performance with partner Derek Hough — together known as #TeamCrikey — saw her top the scoreboards in a tie with The Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter. Hough — who has been on the show for 16 seasons — clearly adores his new dance partner, gushing that “Bindi just fills the room with this amazing energy, and it’s contagious.” Hough later took to Instagram with an image of he and Bindi embracing, writing: “So proud of this incredible Angel! Read on to find out who went to the head of class and who risked being sent home. (Disclaimer: Final grades made up by Us Weekly and have no bearing on actual rankings.) How they did: Sure, he rode American Pharaoh to Triple Crown glory, but can Victor dance?

Love you” The day before her performance, Bindi thanked her fans on her social media pages: “There are so many amazing souls that are going to be a part of this. They face two major challenges: First, Karina is roughly four feet taller than Victor. (Okay, the height difference may not be quite that extreme, but still). Espinoza — whose height reached Smirnoff’s chest — danced a salsa number heavy on booty shaking and lacking in salsa, as judge Carrie Ann Inaba pointed out. Vega and her two-time champion partner Mark Ballas (donning a man-bun!) delivered a sensual jive, which won 22 points — a point shy of her husband’s score. Upon meeting partner Emma, Hayes quipped, “She doesn’t look 26, if that makes her feel any better.” (To be clear, he thinks 26 is old.) But what he lacks in age, he made up for in a certain joie de vivre that the judges absolutely loved.

Whether they were real or not, the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” was quite tearful post-dance, blaming her stiff moves on her obsession for perfection. Hough described it as “the best performance of the night.” Tonioli called her “the wonder from down under” and Inaba called Bindi Irwin’s jive “just beautiful.” The 71-year-old ended the night with 15 points and delivered an uncomfortable post-interview, reading Erin Andrews’ lines from her teleprompter at one point. Still, the saucy cook (who lost tons of endorsements due to her racist remarks in a 2013 deposition) hit the dance floor with pro Louis armed with a ton of personality.

Although her husband, Carlos, joked about being jealous of her quick closeness together with her companion, he was extremely pleased with her efficiency. The artist stated he needed to hitch the forged this season as a result of his late mom beloved dancing, and being part of the present made him really feel nearer to her. Bruno called her performance “hot” and “sexy,” and Julianne noted she had “an amazing presence.” Still, she fell two points short of her husband when all was said and done. Though his dancing left much to be desired, Gary and pro partner Anna still made an impression, mostly due to Gary’s signature nonsensical commentary. “When I’m talking to you, your left eye is spinning,” he told Tom during their post-dance interview.

Bruno referred to as him a “boy marvel,” and we’re positive together with his social following he’ll be round for a lot of extra exhibits to return. Bruno compared their performance to a “summer blockbuster” full of “chaos, mayhem, and destruction.” For her part, Carrie Ann praised Gary’s commitment, though she didn’t say much about his dancing. If Chaka Khan danced the cha cha in addition to she sang, or her strikes shone as brightly as her glitzy, rhinestone-embellished costume, she’d be extra in our favor. Paula stated that she hasn’t finished any type of organized dancing for 50 years so we will solely think about she greased her joints with butter to start out feeling limber once more.

After she totally fangirled out at their first meeting, Sharna clearly put Nick to work — and their hard work paid off. “What a way to wrap up the night,” Julianne declared.
