Chris Harrison Breaks Silence on The Bachelor’s Whitney Bischoff, Chris Soules Split: “It’s Sad”.

However, for those of the Bachelor Nation who watched Chris Soules fall in love with Whitney Bischoff, a fertility nurse from Chicago, the news of their split following a 6-month engagement was a genuine surprise. In an exclusive clip obtained by Us Weekly, Harrison tells Hallmark’s Home & Family co-hosts Mark and Christina that the former couples’ split will be tough, just like any other couple. “I was really sorry to hear this morning that Chris and Whitney had ended their engagement, obviously from our last show The Bachelor…He went on to do Dancing With the Stars and moved back to Iowa and I thought they had given it a go and were going back together but apparently not,” the host of the ABC franchise revealed. While their split was news to Harrison as well, the Perfect Letter author revealed he’s been in contact with the season 19 Bachelor. “I will admit I’ve texted Chris on and off today just letting him know I wish them both well and they’re both good friends of mine and if there is anything I can do to help with,” he added. “And that’s one of the things that’s odd about the show, I know it is television and I know there are silly things that go on, but, to me, they are also real people. They’re just two kids that were hopefully going to get married and they’re not now and that’s sad…they’re still two people going through a breakup, so it’s still tough.

But still, the breakup of The Bachelor’s and , is hitting hard with some fans. “Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules have mutually and amicably decided to end their engagement,” the couple told E! However, Tilley found herself unable to commit to the L-word or to the promise that she’d move to Soules’ hometown of Arlington, Iowa, should he propose.

They wish to thank everyone who has supported them through this journey.” Earlier this month, Soules debunked rumors of a split, telling Us: “We’re together and we’re in love…We’re making the best of a really cool situation.” I think you have to use logic in any relationship and looking at Whitney’s situation and looking at her being in Chicago and being career-oriented and ready to settle down, those sorts of things are really attractive to me.” Naturally, a match made on The Bachelor is not one you want to rush – given the short timeframe these couples have to get to know each other, setting a wedding date is often not as high a priority as getting to know how your significant other takes their coffee. That said, despite Bischoff’s enthusiastic insistence during her time on the show that she fully intended to move to Arlington, she and Soules were more reticent in their chat with PEOPLE. “We haven’t really gotten there yet,” said Bischoff when asked about relocating to Arlington. “I think we’re just taking it step by step. … I don’t think you can put a time limit on something like that. Chris, of course, was famously close to his family and unwilling to permanently move away from his family business, a farm in Arlington, Iowa, where he has been for planting season. Though Soules made it clear that he loved Bischoff’s “driven” nature, he did admit that, “to a certain extent,” he’d want a wife who had a career both at home and away. “Someone who has been there, done that and now wants to spend the next chapter as a mother.

Still, the two maintained up until very recently that they could make the distance work. “[Farming] doesn’t necessarily have to be in her blood,” Chris told E! News’ Marc Malkin on May 10 at the Tomorrowland premiere. “I think once she sees what I appreciate about [Arlington], and she’s seen some of that, it’s a really great lifestyle.

Just cornfields.” Though, to viewers, Chris and Whitney’s engagement only lasted two months since the show’s season finale in March, it’s actually been six months since they filmed the proposal. Chris hinted to us that the end of the show was a really difficult adjustment—for him and for his relationship with Whitney. “They just dump you back into the world,” He told us. “They do! There’s nobody telling you what to do which is good but it’s also a transition.” It’s also unknown whether Whitney held up her vow (strong woman!) to not watch her and Chris’ season of The Bachelor—which showed that he had some deep feelings for some of the other girls, including runner-up Becca.

Only two weeks ago, Chris told us he and Whitney were in the beginning stages of wedding planning. “We’re sort of getting back to normal,” he said. “Whitney’s enjoying work and getting back in the swing of things…It’s nice to unwind and let the planning happen naturally.” And he talked about their wedding reception as if it were still definitely happening. “If there’s anything that came out of [DWTS], it’s that I’m going to look good on the dance floor with Whitney on our wedding evening. After doing that [DWTS], I’m not really afraid of doing anything.” Well, whoever he marries someday will be a lucky girl on that reception dancefloor.
