Amy Schumer Joins Sen. Chuck Schumer In Fight For Gun Legislation.

Schumer and Schumer appeared on the steps of New York City Hall to call for legislation that would expand background checks, including ending a loophole in which firearms can be purchased at gun shows and online without such initial checks.

For Long Island native Amy Schumer, the issue of gun violence became personal when two people were killed and nine others injured by a shooter in Louisiana while watching her movie ‘Trainwreck.’ Since then, she’s back her cousin Schumer’s legislation, which she says is not about taking guns from rightful owners. The initial conference followed the gun violence at a movie theater in Lafayette, Lousiana earlier in the summer at the showing of “Trainwreck“, a movie in which Amy Schumer starred.

The comedian’s personal involvement extends beyond the familial factor: July’s fatal shooting in a Lafayette, La., movie theater occurred during a screening of her comedy, “Trainwreck“. It started in August, when they teamed up days after a gunman fatally shot two women in a Louisiana theater showing “Trainwreck,” starring Amy Schumer. The senator and his famous cousin appeared outside City Hall in Manhattan on Sunday to promote their “crusade against guns,” the Associated Press reported. The story are gut-wrenching, Amy Schumer said at the event, calling attention to the 12-year-old girl who died after being hit by a stray bullet while in her Long Island home earlier this month.

On Saturday the actress and comic tweeted that her recent HBO comedy special was dedicated to her niece and Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson, the victims of the Lafayette shooting. I don’t know why he picked my movie. “Schumer & Schumer” – as the cousins whimsically dub themselves – urged lawmakers to back a proposed gun control bill sponsored by the New York Democrat. The relatives first held a press conference in New York in August to showcase the senator’s draft proposal intended to stop violent criminals, abusers and those with mental illnesses from obtaining guns. The shooting killed two women and injured at least nine others. “If there is anything that the mass shootings in Lafayette, Chattanooga, Charleston, Virginia Tech, Aurora, Sandy Hook and so many other places have taught us, it’s that we should be do everything in our power to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of hateful evil-doers and the mentally ill,” she stated at the time.
