‘American Horror Story’ Bringing Lily Rabe Back for ‘Hotel’.

The actress is in talks to return for a main role in the upcoming fifth season, Hotel, of the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk drama, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. After four installments of American Horror Story, FX President John Landgraf has promised that season five, known as American Horror Story: Hotel, will be a “huge reinvention for the series.” We know things will be noticeably different to begin with, as series staple and frequent leading lady Jessica Lange will not be returning. As first reported by EW, Rabe — currently starring on ABC’s summer bubble show The Whispers — would play a famous serial killer who has stayed at the show’s central hotel. Other major changes that are in store for AHS have yet to be revealed, but new information about the upcoming season is trickling out slowly but surely. Lily has appeared in all four seasons of the show so far, but last season (Freak Show) she was sadly only in one episode, reprising her role as Sister Mary Eunice from Asylum. She portrayed the socialite wife of Charles Montgomery, a celebrity doctor and the first owner of the Murder House, where she now resides as a ghost. We also know that production for the season will take place in Los Angeles, as the story is tied to the city, but other plot details are being kept firmly under wraps.

Lily has been one of the biggest highlights of this series for me, and part of the reason I sat last season out was because I knew she wouldn’t be a regular. Now that I know she’ll be back, and already having heard about some of the other new and returning cast members (Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Lady Gaga, Max Greenfield, Cheyenne Jackson, Matt Bomer), plus the fact that Sarah Paulson is apparently playing a villain named Hypodermic Sally, I’m more likely to be tuning in next season. As for more new blood joining the series, in February, it was announced that singer-songwriter Lady Gaga had joined the cast, marking her major television series debut. Sporting what looks like typical Gaga garb, we hear the recognizable, ominious industrial noise, then Lady Gaga’s face is revealed relaying the name of the season.
