Alfonso Ribeiro Will Host ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’.

Actor and “Dancing with the Stars” Season 19 Champion, Alfonso Ribeiro, is named new host of ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” as announced today by Tom Bergeron during the season finale of DWTS. “After receiving hundreds of inquiries, stacks of video submissions and a very close audition race, one smile, one funny and sincere delivery became our standout favorite – Alfonso Riberio,” said Vin Di Bona, executive producer. “We look forward to Alfonso leading AFV into the next generation of family friendly viewership.” ABC’s longest-running primetime entertainment show, “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” returns for season 26 this fall with the same mission – giving families something genuinely funny to enjoy together on Sunday nights.America’s Funniest Home Videos has finally chosen a host to succeed Tom Bergeron, and the two share a Dancing with the Stars connection: Ribeiro won season 19 of the ABC reality competition series, which, of course, Begeron hosts.

Ribeiro, who first rose to fame on the sitcoms Silver Spoons and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is no stranger to the emcee role; he currently serves as host of Cooking Channel’s Unwrapped 2.0 and previously lorded over the proceedings at ABC Family’s Spell-Mageddon and Game Show Network’s Catch 21. The show’s incoming and fifth host (Bob Saget and the tandem of Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang also preceded Ribeiro) says that he isn’t planning to deviate wildly from the style of Bergeron while establishing his own vibe. “It won’t be very different,” he tells EW. “It’s really about assisting the videos not trying to overpower the videos with your comedy. For me to able to come in and replace Tom, who’s my idol in the hosting world, will be a challenge but one that I feel excited to be a part of.” Ribeiro notes that he’s a big AFV fan (“It’s a show that I’ve watched for many years—loved watching it, watch it with my kids”) and that he was appreciative that Bergeron helped pave the way for him to land the gig. “It’s really cool that I have Tom’s blessing in this,” he says. “All along Tom has said that I’ve been the one that he would love to replace him, so that is an incredible honor and I’m just excited to jump in— and I’m going full-bore.” In case you’re wondering what type of videos most appeal to the new man in charge, the key words are oops and ouch. “My favorite is when people do things to hurt themselves,” says Ribeiro. “I just love watching people attempt to do something that they absolutely should not attempt to do and wipe out.
