Alfonso Ribeiro Set as New Host of ABC’s ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’.

“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star and “Dancing With the Stars” champion Alfonso Ribeiro will be taking over as host of ABC’s long-running “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” replacing the outgoing Tom Bergeron, it was announced Tuesday during the “DWTS” finale. As part of the announcement, ABC promises the upcoming season will include “an abundant supply of fresh clips to keep families laughing from coast to coast.” The show’s incoming and fifth host (Bob Saget and the tandem of Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang also preceded Ribeiro) says that he isn’t planning to deviate wildly from the style of Bergeron while establishing his own vibe. “It won’t be very different,” he tells EW. “It’s really about assisting the videos not trying to overpower the videos with your comedy. As the network began its search for a new television personality, Ribeiro, who had an existing relationship with the network (and with Bergeron) from his time on DWTS, stood out as a likely candidate. For me to able to come in and replace Tom, who’s my idol in the hosting world, will be a challenge but one that I feel excited to be a part of.” Ribeiro notes that he’s a big AFV fan (“It’s a show that I’ve watched for many years—loved watching it, watch it with my kids”) and that he was appreciative that Bergeron helped pave the way for him to land the gig. “It’s really cool that I have Tom’s blessing in this,” he says. “All along Tom has said that I’ve been the one that he would love to replace him, so that is an incredible honor and I’m just excited to jump in— and I’m going full-bore.” In case you’re wondering what type of videos most appeal to the new man in charge, the key words are oops and ouch. “My favorite is when people do things to hurt themselves,” says Ribeiro. “I just love watching people attempt to do something that they absolutely should not attempt to do and wipe out.

The difference between Bob Saget and Tom: Bob was about his jokes and Tom has really been about setting up videos and having those be the star of the show. I have a high energy and a lot of creative ideas in terms of dancing and singing and maybe I’ll use some of those abilities to introduce some of our videos.

It’s the perfect time: It’s Sunday night, you’re getting ready to start your week again, you sit down, you have family dinner, you throw on AFV, and you watch it together as a family.
