‘SNL': Matthew McConaughey-Hosted Episode Tackles Syrian Refugees, Adele and ‘Star Wars’.

The SNL performance marked the 27-year-old’s first live American TV performance as part of her 25 album push. During the opening monologue of his first SNL show in 14 years, the 46-year-old detailed exactly how the line came about, explaining how it was the very first scene of his filmed acting career.

Saturday will mark his first return to Studio 8H since 2003, when the Dixie Chicks performed as musical guest and McConaughey had just released How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.Adele’s ubiquitous single “Hello” had light and dark renditions on Saturday Night Live — appearing in an early sketch shortly before the lady herself gave it a powerhouse performance. Since then, he’s left the romcoms behind, and post-McConaissance, he’s taken to more dramatic roles, like Rust Cohle in True Detective and himself in those philosophical Lincoln ads.

Adele returned to the show for the first time since 2008 on the heels of her new album “25.” Even before she took the stage, the album’s swelling single was the center of an extended gag. While he doesn’t have any big movies coming up this holiday season, he’ll next appear in Gus Van Sant’s drama The Sea of Trees, about a man who travels to Japan’s Suicide Forest, and the Civil War drama The Free State of Jones. Host Matthew McConaughey ended his opening monologue by cutting away to a skit of a typically dysfunctional Thanksgiving dinner, where “Hello” keeps intervening as the only thing everyone in the family can agree on.

The show’s cold open, a parody of Fox & Friends, featured SNL castmembers continuing the debate on Syrian refugees being allowed into the U.S., in light of the recent Paris attacks. Earlier this month, she performed “Hello” at France’s NRJ Awards and took part in Adele at the BBC, a special hour-long program dedicated to the singer and featured an interview with Graham Norton. Adele’s slew of appearances and performance will likely help with her album’s success – Billboard previously reported that CD and digital sales of 25 are expected to reach more than 3 million in the album’s first week. This producer and I start talking and four hours later we get kicked out of said bar. “In the taxi on the way home he says ‘Hey, McConaughey, you ever done any acting.’ And I say ‘Well no, not really’.

Taran Killam’s version is one of the best impressions in his arsenal, whether he’s dissecting True Detective with Woody Harrelson, riffing on McConaughey’s offbeat Oscar speech, or humming the Inspector Gadget theme song. The segment also featured guest “Ben Carson,” who was impersonated by castmember Jay Pharoah in the sleepy and calm manner that has been used to describe the Republican presidential candidate. He says ‘Well, I’m doing this movie and you might be right for this part.’ “My character, David Wooderson, he has three lines in the entire film.

And when Jim Carrey hosted last October, his take on those Lincoln ads (complete with eyes-closed driving) went on to become the most-viewed SNL sketch on YouTube. The British singer returned later, in the same dress and with the same gloom, for another “25” tearjerker, “When We Were Young.” She did not appear in any sketches. Carson added to the refugee discussion with possible tactics that could be used to weed out terrorists, such as only allowing those to enter who “eat bacon and sing Christmas carols.” When Dr. SNL did show off dueling impressions just two weeks ago, when Darrell Hammond and Killam imitated Donald Trump, so they’re unlikely to do that again any time soon, but a surprise Carrey appearance is still a possibility. Carson was introduced as a doctor, Bobby Moynihan added that Carson was “straight outta Compton,” only to be told that he confused the Republican candidate with Dr.

Now what I mean by that, a launch pad line is a line that if a character really believes it, then I can feel like I can write a whole book on this character. “The scene goes like this: Wooderson’s hanging out at a pool hall with some buddies, some girls walk by, he smacks one of them on the a** and his buddy says, ‘Man, you’re going to go to jail for that, Wood Man.’ And Wooderson says ‘Nah. In an episode called “Lucy is Enceinte” — she couldn’t even be called pregnant on the show — Lucille Ball’s character tells her husband she is pregnant (without ever using the word). Adele first took to the stage at 30 Rock back in 2008, when Josh Brolin hosted and the real Sarah Palin stopped by to confront Lorne Michaels about Tina Fey’s “Caribou Barbie” impression.

It ran on CBS from 1962 to 1968 and showed a widowed Lucy Carmichael sharing a home with Vivian Bagley, a divorced woman at a time when divorce was still a scarlet letter. It was one of SNL’s most-watched episodes ever, and the day after Adele gave her tender performance of “Chasing Pavements,” her debut album, 19, jumped to the very top of the iTunes charts. At the behest of telekinetic aliens who compelled them to do it, Nyota Uhura shared a steamy on-screen kiss with Captain Kirk and the pair went down in interstellar TV history. On the outside, I seem nice, but on the inside, I’ve never held elective office.” The sounds of SNL’s special performer, Adele, were featured in many of the night’s sketches, including a Thanksgiving video in which her song “Hello” brought the family together.

In 1972, Sammy Davis, Jr., made a guest appearance as himself on an episode of “All in the Family.” The episode was filled with jokes playing on the racial tensions of the day — and on Archie’s blatant racism — including a moment in which Davis wrongly assumes that Archie’s daughter Gloria is married to a black man. McConaughey participated as a grandfather engaged in Thanksgiving discussion with his family when a debate concerning Syrian refugees suddenly sparked arguments across the table, but they suddenly softened as soon as Adele’s “Hello” was played in the room.

Davis spends most of the episode at their home and, just before the 30 minutes is up, he and Archie pose for a picture — and Davis plants a wet smooch on Archie’s cheek right as the camera goes off. You know, what’s he about?’ And I tell myself, ‘Wooderson’s about four things: he’s about cars, weed, rock ‘n’ roll, and chicks.’ “I look around, where I am, well I’m in my 70’s Chevelle.

Wade made abortion legal throughout the country, Bea Arthur, as the title character of the show “Maude,” made a controversial TV decision: She had an abortion. At the Television Critics Association in 2015, Crystal said: “I did it in front of a live audience, and there were times where I would say to Bob, ‘I love you,’ and the audience would laugh nervously, because, you know, it’s a long time ago, that I’d feel this anger. Castmembers impersonated stars, such as Sofia Vergara (Cecily Strong), Chris Rock and John Mayer, who read for various roles including Chewbacca and Han Solo.

A few episode after the pilot, it was revealed that the shadowy, bandaged figure named Alexis was actually the post-transition version of magazine editor Alex Meade. That same year, Candis Cayne played a transgender character on “Dirty Sexy Money” but since then there have been other characters, notably Laverne Cox as Sophia Burset in “Orange is the New Black.”
